I get this question fairly often: what is Epik and/or Epik clients buying, and how are we going to be buying them? Here is my short summary for October 2019 of what is interesting to buy in bulk.

Selection Criteria

(1) Family names / Surnames in .COM

- Look for names that have a frequency of at least 2,500:

https://en.geneanet.org/genealogy/

(2) Aged single hyphen names 5+ years old or where at least 4 other extensions are taken. Shorter and brandables are what is interesting, i.e. suitable for a business name or product name.

I explained about hyphens here.

(3) .COM names where the .AI or .IO is taken and is being used with an operating website or recently announced some pending activities to show they are serious.

For example, if someone owns Namepros.ai, then NamePros.com is interesting, especially if the Namepros.AI has traffc on a live site.

(4) Names that correspond to US 2020 election candidates:

https://www.fec.gov/data/candidates/

Your are looking for the shortest name that would be used for billboard advertising, e.g. (1) unique first name, (2) last name or (3) first + last name assuming not too long.

Procedure

To submit domains, please don't send spam, instead:

1. Go to Epik.com

2. Add the domains under Domains --> Add domains

3. Set BIN price for your domains but include Make Offer as enabled. If you are a NamePros member you are eligible to have also non-Epik domains listed with BIN pricing.

4. We'll look at the new submissions as they come in and buy, and others can buy too. @Gube and @RaquelPenha will also help keep up with the inbound name screening.

Note: if you are hand-registering domains, that's fine, but please do it at Epik if you want a fast sale since we are not a fan of 60-day locks. Besides, our prices are great. If you want a 5-day tasting account, you can get that -- you pay just the ICANN fee. Contact @epik to have your account enabled for domain tasting.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
#4 seems like a "seasonal" (short life span) as opposed to a "evergreen" choice..
Just my non-American thoughts..

But then again #4 can be your #1..

True, but we can help these folks to get a proper domain name for their election campaigns. These people who run campaign committees rely heavily on billboards. Nobody can remember an obscure URL, but a short one works for election candidates, just like it works for real estate agents. Their names are their brand. Trouble is, very few names are unique. There is even more than one "Rob Monster". Crazy, I know.

Great points! Enjoyed your explanation and logic in your choices, might have even gave me another way to look at domains.

I, apologize..I read your posting and replied without checking which part of the forum, it was posted. I assumed it was under "General discussion"

Thread been moved since the above posting..

Thanks -- I am actually not holding anything back. It is like going on a fishing trip. I happen to see more fish than some people but don't mind pointing to where there might be some decent fish. If someone wants me to buy their fish wholesale, because they need money right away, I can do so, and then wait for the retail buyer of the domain to come along. However, I don't mind if others steal these strategies, though I prefer it if they did it at Epik so everyone wins, and I can keep sharing my best ideas here.

@Rob Monster , what do you think of long-tail domains (3 or 4 words) if they are the perfect fit for something. Have you ever bought or sold any long-tail domains.

What kind of budget per name for each category Rob?

I have sold some but I am not a fan in 2019 of long tail. The carry costs will eat you alive and there are very few sustainable SEO tactics. So, I would not waste time on it, frankly.

- Family names: Up to $5000 each

- Aged hyphens: Up to $1000 each

- .AI / .IO upgrades: Up to $5000 each

- Candidate names / Common names: Up to $500 each. Most campaign finance chairs are cheapskates so windfalls will be rare in this category.

Make sure you take the 9% commission into consideration.

@Rob Monster How do you know if I'm a NamePros member?

If you see Renewal rates of $8.49 or less for .COM, you have NP pricing:

https://registrar.epik.com/prices

PM @epik if we need to adjust your pricing.

This also gets you a bunch of other features:

- $8.49 backorders

- Sell, lease and park non-Epik domains for free

- Commission-free escrow for domains on Epik where buyer pays via wire

- Ability to fund external services like NameJet and Snapnames using your balances

- Ability to buy MLS domains with no markup, e.g. Afternic and Sedo.

Etc.

Only .COM.

To use a real estate metaphor, if a .COM is Main Street, then a short brandable hyphen .COM, is "1 block off of main street".

Good luck! I’m really excited about all potential acquisitions, more than submitting, my own names!

Thank you for making clear: Only .com accepted!!

Now, i’m even more excited.
