...along one of our major motorways here in the UK and guess what, a HUGE billboard passed me by advertising an upcoming event (taking place next weekend) that is directing people to the UK domain that belongs to me! For info, I've now parked the domain (it's not under any trademarks)

Have you ever seen one of your domains that's still in your possession advertised elsewhere? If so, what did you do?

I think something like that would light the red alarm, for bad.

It's not trademarked...

It does not matter, they can demonstrate commercial interest, I think the best thing is that you do not park your domain, put a small website.

I have that problem now.

have you tried searching the name to see what comes up?

So they advertised the .UK instead of the .co.uk ?

That makes no sense... who advertises a domain that doesn't belong to them? Perhaps you need to drive by again..

As far as seeing your domain advertised elsewhere, that is not of your doing, yes, I have seen. Generally it is an aftermarket platform tho, like Afternic. An old listing by a previous owner who never took it off.

Are we talking that they were actually advertising with your domain or is this akin to Sony's marketing with make.believe?

Either way, it sounds quite promising for your owned domain.

So someone is advertising a large UK event on a billboard using a domain that you own, and the domain has nothing on it? Is that correct?

Was it the top or bottom billboard?

Unless, they have a clear TM claim to it, it is not his problem that they made a mistake in the domain they are advertising or used it before they bought it.

Otherwise, you could reverse hijack most names by checking that they are parked and then just putting up a billboard with that URL on.
