I've bought an 6K EUR domain for a buy now price and today morning received the following message from sedo:

Transaction cancelled by Sedo
The seller has made an unintended or fake bid. The seller has been warned and action against him has been taken. Sedo will therefore not proceed with the transaction at this point.

You might want to take a legal action against the seller, therefore we have made his contact data available in your Sedo contract.

The suspension of the transfer in no way affects the Purchase & Sales Agreement between the seller and the buyer. In case you and the seller agree to continue the transaction, Sedo may proceed with the transfer.

What I do not understand is why the domain was returned back to the marketplace for the same price. Is there anything could be done here? At least somehow "punish" the seller so that this domain will disappear from the sedo and afternic marketplaces.

It's strange.. Why would the domain be back on sedo (at the same price), if he cancelled the transfer ?
Try to contact sedo directly :)

Wrote to them already - funny thing before i've specifically asked if this seller account is in the good standing, and they told me yes - the seller completed a few transactions already on their market and is responsible.

I also do not understand why Sedo was so quick in cancelling the transaction - I thought it is their direct job to work with the seller in such edge cases(phone calls, emails, etc) - to make him realize that the agreement is a legal binding and should be fulfilled or face the consequences(like banning his account and his domains on their marketplace at least).

Anyone have any thoughts of how the seller could be inclined to make a transaction?

Hi there, and first off: Sorry for the bad experience. We keep telling our sellers to always keep their portfolio up-to-date.....And then this happens. We did check the seller before, just as you had asked. Usually a reliable one. In this particular case the seller would not have continued the transfer with us. We did talk to the customer and it was 100% clear that there would be no chance he'd continue the process. The domain was then taken off our marketplace and the seller received a warning and action against him has been taken, as mentioned above.

Still, you have an agreement with the seller, and of course you are free to take further legal steps. I know that this doesn't really help right away. We just want you to know that we're sorry about this thing as well. You haven't got your domain, we haven't got any commission, so we're not satisfied either.

Let us know if we can do anything else for you; you can also send us email to [email protected].

Thank you for replying, Sedo. I agree with a Mad Max - you are a quality company overall.

Just to clear few things up - the original seller of the domain in question was accepting offers(bids) I've made my offer too, then he stopped accepting new offers and instead moved the domain into "Buy Now" for a BIN price slightly above mid XXXX EURO for a 5L .NET domain (so not a bargain price) and after agonizing for a few hours of consideration :) I finally decided to get it for a declared BIN.

Then I had to drive to my bank, open a specific Euro account for this tx, swap dollars to euros, start filling a documents for a wire transfer only to get the message from Sedo that the transaction is bogus(my strict feeling is the seller decided he asked too low for the domain, basically changed his mind after a deal was made). So as you see a lot of hours were lost to nowhere.

I also tried to contact the seller multiple times, but he was not responsive even for a basic apology(for loosing my time, at least).

This really seems like a lot of effort, I understand. Please let us know if you encounter anything similar in the future.

Since, you had to go through a lot and there is an agreement that breached by the seller...my suggestion would be to take legal action against the seller if possible.

A deal done is deal done. I hate those who don't honor their words.
