Today is the official International Day of Happiness. I thought it might be a good lead to discuss domains related to happy and happiness (I admit I love this category personally).

Anyway, to start off here is an official page around the topic and day, and it is here.

Each year just before this date a group of scholarly experts release a World Happiness Report that use a number of measures to rank countries in terms of happiness. This is the 19th report, and if looking for it it is here: http://worldhappiness.report/ed/2019/. Canada has dropped :xf.frown: but is still top 10 :xf.smile:. Congratulations to all you happy residents of Finland!

How does happy and happiness sell as a domain name? Not bad at all actually. In 2018 'happy' was part of a domain sale 80 times with an average price of $1361. Here is the list. The top sale, interestingly, was HappyMath (com) at $35,000.

Although the psychology of happiness goes back many decades (it is called positive psychology), Shawn Achor brought it to a wide audience with his wildly popular (and very good!) book TheHappinessAdvantage. The essential idea is that people are more creative and productive if they are happy, so there is considerable benefit to strive to be happy as a first step. Research over almost two decades with Harvard undergraduates showed that a narrow focus on working hard and leaving being happy for the future is counterproductive. The science of happiness is one of (the possibly) most popular courses both online and in traditional form at several universities.

So do you think domain names involving happy and happiness have high worth? If so what niches do you see?

I hope that some will share both sales they had and also happiness related names they hold.

Happy International Day of Happiness everyone! :xf.smile:

I really hope others will post to this thread. Do it (please)!

OK let me start off.....

As a sort of play on words with the title off the book, I own AdvantageHappy (com). I viewed it in the way that we use the word advantage in tennis coverage. Tons of Google search results with the term. No serious inquiries yet. The domain name is in second year now.

My favourite is probably happiness (icu). In fact it was the first ICU registration I made and I was not originally planning to invest in the extension until I saw I could get happiness in it. I love the "I See You" meaning for a happiness therapist or coach, but also see it working with an Intensive Care Unit for those helping those suffering from depression. I have it registered already into another year after this one runs out and plan to keep it until I find the right end user.

One that I feel less sure about is HappyXD (com). XD is the symbol for big grin, so I thought it was cute. Probably too cute.

I only hold a few .net, but one of them is HappyHelp (net) I view it as a good fit for some kind of nonprofit network devoted to increasing happiness in people's lives. Only had it a few months (was a hand reg).

I have varied feelings about it but hold now HappyPeople (space). Somewhat unusually the exact name has sold before, used briefly, then dropped and I got it as a hand reg.

I picked up HappyGolf (club). It just seemed nice. Not huge hopes for it though. I also had TheHappiness (club) but let it expire recently - no queries even at low price.

Share your happy happiness names!

Great names - thanks for sharing! Do you mean HappyKid in com, I presume? I ask because both .life and .world could be single word names in that TLD, but I suspect at high premium.

By the way you can use Dofo to readily search for example for domain names for sale containing the word 'happy' (here is the list). Among the ones for sale are happy.net at $200,000 and some nice new extensions (make offer) including happy.life and happy.world.

And here is the list for happiness, which includes .com but as a make offer.

In terms of sales at NameBio (I listed the ones for happy in the top of this thread) it turns out that happiness has not sold for as much, with the top sale just $2500 for SecretOfHappiness (com). You would think the secret of happiness would be worth more than that! The list of NB listed happiness sales is here.

Sorry I should have done a poll here, but I think it is too late to add one? Anyway, the word Happy has sold as part of a .com domain name as each of the following. Without looking at NameBio, which do you think sold for the most?
  • HappyBath
  • HappyChef
  • HappyKids
  • HappyMath
If you are on Twitter you can vote in a Twitter poll here. BeHappy!

I just realize I never gave the answers! Sorry about that, here is what they sold for:
  • HappyMath.com $35,000 (2018)
  • HappyBath.com $12,849 (2015)
  • HappyChef.com $10,357 (2017)
  • HappyKids.com $3980 (2009)
Most of the voters in my Twitter poll thought Kids would be the most valuable, and I agree. But what we think is not always what happens. Many factors influence sale prices. Of course the kids is the older sale, and definitely domain names including word happy have sold for more and more often of late.
