Today is the official International Day of Happiness. I thought it might be a good lead to discuss domains related to happy and happiness (I admit I love this category personally).
Anyway, to start off here is an official page around the topic and day, and it is here.
Each year just before this date a group of scholarly experts release a World Happiness Report that use a number of measures to rank countries in terms of happiness. This is the 19th report, and if looking for it it is here: http://worldhappiness.report/ed/2019/. Canada has dropped but is still top 10 . Congratulations to all you happy residents of Finland!
How does happy and happiness sell as a domain name? Not bad at all actually. In 2018 'happy' was part of a domain sale 80 times with an average price of $1361. Here is the list. The top sale, interestingly, was HappyMath (com) at $35,000.
Although the psychology of happiness goes back many decades (it is called positive psychology), Shawn Achor brought it to a wide audience with his wildly popular (and very good!) book TheHappinessAdvantage. The essential idea is that people are more creative and productive if they are happy, so there is considerable benefit to strive to be happy as a first step. Research over almost two decades with Harvard undergraduates showed that a narrow focus on working hard and leaving being happy for the future is counterproductive. The science of happiness is one of (the possibly) most popular courses both online and in traditional form at several universities.
So do you think domain names involving happy and happiness have high worth? If so what niches do you see?
I hope that some will share both sales they had and also happiness related names they hold.
Happy International Day of Happiness everyone!
Bob
