Hi guys,

Wanted a discussion thread for sales that were almost completed but for one reason or the other didn't go through.

Mine was an experience I will not forget easily. It was supposed to be my first sale as a domainer. The domain is WealthGen..co, someone has clicked to buy it at Sedo for low xxx.

I was already celebrating after receiving the congratulatory message of the sale. But waiting for the guy to pay up turned from counting in days to weeks, then months before I had to cancel the sale because I needed to relist it in other platforms where I delisted it when I got notification of the sale.

All attempt to know the reason for the delay in payment by the buyer failed, I wanted to know if the reason is something I can be of help. Though I had the option to sue for a breach of contract against the buyer, but I didn't want to follow that part.

That's mine, over to you. Advice on better ways to handle such situations are welcomed.

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
This is very common on Sedo, people buying names and then not paying for them. There is not much you can do but moved forward. Suing someone is not worth it at it will cost you more than the price of the domain??

Its not a sale until money is not into your account.

There is nothing like "Near Sales Experience".
It's either sale or no-sale. By the way, I prefer to share motivating success stories. Too many and more than enough failures abound already.

It actually is a sale. It's a legally binding contract since both parties agreed on the sale. The problem is enforcing it. Different countries, laws and regulations make it even more difficult.

He's not reporting, he wants to know if he's personally doing something wrong.

This happens all over, not just at sedo. If you don't hear back for a couple weeks, relist the domain.

I had the same experience but with a different marketplace, the potential buyer made an offer first then we had a negotiation until we landed on a deal. But after the said deal, he did not respond anymore and nowhere to be found. So the transaction did not materialized.

I've tried to ask for support from the marketplace, but I was told that it's my responsibility to chase that buyer. So I decided not to think about that anymore and move on.

This January I have a similar painful ''Near to sell experience''. A guy offered $50k for one of my names via Undeveloped. To say the truth, from the start I knew it was fake bid, but you know, all of us want to believe our 1% of our luck. But it was fake bid, "buyer" never respond and paid. Sad, but ok I went on.

Sorry I'm kinda off topic.I have never
experienced this but has this ever caused you to lose legit sales?

Get a fake offer you accepted, then while waiting it out a real buyer comes along to buy your name but you can not sell because of a binding agreement.
From my understanding there is a binding agreement on the fake offer once you accept. Binding for how long? How long do you have to wait before contacting other buyers or relisting for sale?
You don't want to break the agreement of the fake offer incase it is legit.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think at GD it's like 7 days.
Now the real buyer moves on to other options because he can not purchase the name.

Those fake offers are shady and I know it will probably never stop.
It's just wrong and bad for business.I don't understand why someone would do this.:xf.frown:

Had an experience early this year. The suppose buyer submitted a bid which I countered. He didn't respond to the counter so I messaged him. He replied with, "your asking price is ridiculously high." I then asked for his budged which he said was $250. Then I agree, waiting for him to pay. Till today he never did. I sent countless messages, but he didn't reply. So I moved on. It happened on Undeveloped
