Hey NP,

In researching the value of Flippa auction listing upgrades over the last couple days I read an interesting post, (sorry can't find the thread again). The NP member said they sold a domain on Flippa with the "Show Off" $59 listing upgrade. The buyer then immediately relisted the domain with the "Premium" $249 listing upgrade and ending up selling it for several times more. I'm sure many factors play into the scenario just described, but nonetheless it got me thinking about testing out a $249 auction on Flippa.

Show Off (Basic listing + Domains Homepage Feature) - $59

Premium (Basic listing + Domains Homepage Feature + Newsletter promotion) - $249

My question is, which of the below domains do you think would do the best in a Flippa auction with the $249 Premium upgrade? I was also thinking of a 30 day auction duration so I can also promote the domain here on NamePros and other platforms. Was going to send out some outbound emails to possible end users as well with a link to the auction. Please provide your feedback on the best domain and any other advice you may have.

Domains:
C/o/m/b/i/n/e/d/C/o/i/n/.com
I/O/S/A/p/p/D/e/v/.com
N/a/m/e/G/o/l/d/m/i/n/e/.com
N/e/w/C/u/r/r/e/n/c/y/H/u/b/.com
T/a/s/k/A/n/a/l/y/z/e/r/.com
M/a/v/W/e/a/l/t/h/.com

Thanks,

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
C/o/m/b/i/n/e/d/C/o/i/n/.com IMHO.
Interested to see results.

I don't know why but I think domainpa.com

I have seen a bit surge in the keyword "domain" sales recently. Plus it matches Brandpa too.

Then again, your domains are recently registered so I am not sure about the results. Had they been a bit aged, they could have fetched good.

Good Luck :)

Was leaning towards this one as well. Appreciate your feedback!

I like this one as well. There's a current "Premium" auction right now for domaino.com which has some serious attention. The current bid is $3,050 with 10 days to go. It's obviously one character less and highly brandable, plus it's 16 years old so I hear ya about the young age of my domains. Thanks for the feedback as well!

Any other thoughts out there?

Firstly, I don't think it's best to use premium listing for ✋ registered domain. But if you want me to choose which one, the I will choose this.

T/a/s/k/A/n/a/l/y/z/e/r/.com

*It's could fetch a good money but I am no means to expert in this domaining. Please consider it only my opnopin not an expert opinions.

This one is very generic & high brandable domain, also there is music & an open source domain monitoring GitHub.

your wasting your money paying 249 to list any of these domains. I wouldn't give you $250 for any of them. Work the drop lists harder

I wouldn't say they are not worth $250, but I would say not to pay any premium listing fees if:
  1. They are new regs
  2. You have no idea of their value
People who have aged domains and know their worth pay the premium listing when they are ready to get rid of domain to get more buyers interested.
IMO I would list everywhere use a sale parking page with make offer and see what kind of offers you get if any. Think long haul. In 5-10 years you'll know their worth and they will be aged and ready for auction.

@Mystic Nobles Media The same reason you wouldn't pay $250 for these domains is the same reason I'm not listing them here on NamePros. I'm not targeting domainers/resellers. And yes I realize a vast majority of buyers on Flippa are probably resellers, but that's also why I plan on supplementing the auction with my own marketing efforts.

I think it's a bad idea and probably best case scenario is break even + pocket money. Are you going to use a reserve?

If he does he might lose $250. If he doesn't he might lose $??? and domain. It's a lose lose situation unless you know it is going to sell and you know the value.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think age really matters these days though? I keep seeing posts about how Google doesn't consider age as much anymore when ranking sites. I do have a couple aged domains, SpecialtyMovers being one them, I just have a fair amount invested in those so adding the $250 premium fee on top of that might start to get a little reckless. Then again, doing that with the current names I have posted may be too.

Listing without a reserve attracts more bidders so I was leaning towards no reserve. Its increases the risk of a loss for sure, but you never really know for certain how the auction will go. I did a lot of auction selling on eBay years ago before getting into domaining and can honestly say a reserve auction never has the same results as no reserve auction. You just need to roll the dice sometimes.

this is how a sale goes when you don't know thew value of the item you are selling.
"Hey you want to buy this? how much? I don't know? $20? No that's not enough......."
People are telling you it's probably not worth $x,xxx. So to spend $xxx to try to sell it for $???. Math is a funny thing. Numbers never lie, but people just can't seem to grasp the sum of things.

All great points and things to consider. It's a lot of money to throw out on just a test. Maybe in the end these are simply not the names to gamble $249 on.

Yeah I mostly roll the dice always except on names I have no interest selling, just testing and hoping to catch PM offers from end users. They fare better

Chances are you're not going to catch any end users, only resellers. On / crypto names age matters less though.

I'm not sure it's the time to auction Coin names the sales are steady but not superb prices on reseller side.

But you can always try, I wish you the best of luck!

Age does matter to investors and domainers. (they are one in the same)
End users it doesn't matter to, cause if they like they name they are going to use it.
unfortunately it's mostly investors "domainers" buying domains on sedo and flippa.
thats why most of the names that get sold on their are never developed.

Have you used the "Premium" upgrade on Flippa auctions. Just curious what your experience has been if so.

Coming from someone who JUST PAID $249 for a premium listing I will say this. If your name is not TRULY worth big bucks, dont do it. Yes, you get more views, I got more views in ONE NIGHT on my premium listing, than my top 2 viewed listings on Flippa for a week (one was a basic $9 listing, one was a “Show off” $59 listing), combined. The $59 show off option is USELESS pretty much. Its either Go Big or go home, and honestly, i’d recommend going home. I just learned that instead of paying $249, you can email them directly and ask for an uprgrade and if they think your name is good, they will apply it for FREE. You can also ask for an Editors Choice upgrade (assuming they haven’t done it for you already) but like I said unless your domain is PREMIUM (these are not) I wouldn’t do it. However, your names are decent and COULD sell to the right buyer. I’d recommend paying a showcase option on GD auctions if you are looking to spend $ to upgrade. GoDaddy auctions, while I have some reserves about them, they get sh*t SOLD, and at a good price too. LOTS of viewers!

To answer your question though, your Coin domain would sell the best there but, On Godaddy i could see it selling for 1.5k

Agreed GD way more sales for regular names, but other for platforms for premium higher $$.

So you realize they are worth barely more than reg fee and think paying 250 to list will make them more valuable?

My auctions are either upgraded against higher commission % or paid by me in case I'm sure the auction will end at a high price (mid x,xxx+). I do sell non-upgraded listings every now and then.

Hope this helps. In addition to Flippa I would also consider GD, I get offers for crypto names there frequently.

Good point on the $59 show off upgrade. The only added benefit from the basic listing is the homepage feature, which they say is only there until pushed off the list by new incoming homepage feature listings. What a slap in the face as well to make some users spend $249 on a premium upgrade and then just give it away to others. Reading through their support pages to get more information on what each tiered upgrade meant was a little confusing as well. Its not clear what you're exactly getting. I didn't see anything about the Editor's Choice on their site. Interesting have read other NP members mention reaching out to Flippa directly for assistance/free upgrades. You are right though, this I'm sure is marketing tactic on their end to get the best domains listed on their site.

"FAQ

How long will my Homepage Feature upgrade last?

The homepage feature for your listing should go up within a few minutes after payment and stay there for up to a day or more, depending on how many other Flippa users have upgraded as well. Flippa does not guarantee a minimum duration for the Homepage Feature upgrade."

It's not free it has a higher commission and they take good names only that they think can go for good money (they ask for your reserve sometimes) so they get the fee that way and fill the marketplace with good names.

At least for the domains posted on this thread, I may go with a GoDaddy featured auction. It would be nice though to have the option for more than a 7 day auction listing. I think naturally you're going to get more exposure the longer your listing is posted. Then again, buyers may lose interest the longer they have to wait since a lot of bidders wait until the final moments of an auction before stepping in.
