We are all now familiar with the term "PUMP and DUMP" which we daily see in crypto currency markets.

Looking backwards into the time of Chinese premium and 4L domain names reaching $2,500 and then coming back to the floor, don't you think it was the perfect example of pump and dump?

Pumping the price continuously higher and higher and when a peak was attained, dumping it slowing back to the floor price.

dont think it was a pump and dump but these domains were a means of circumventing capital controls of other countries. not something we really have in US but then crypto got popular and it was much easier to liquidate bitcoin than a 4 letter .com so the money shifted there. if anything I personally added some 4 letters to my port and as long as every name you buy is better than your best everyone should have a better port today. Im happy with the attention it got and happy with the names I picked up...thats whats great about domaining no matter the new trend or a new job. there maybe a new job market created with cryptotraders and you can bet the bank that domainers already snagged all the crypto names.. trends come and go but what is certain is every trend past, present and future will need a name to resolve to...and we will be right there waiting for their offers. Domain on! Im still waiting for robots to take over and someone to invent a security system to prevent it...picked up roboticsercurity in king years ago from some guy in france.

This is one of the most accurate accounts of what was actually going on. They never really cared about domains, maybe a small percentage of them did, but otherwise it was exactly what was stated above.

At that time in 2015, I owned about 400 4L.com's, one day after checking my spam box, I started seeing an influx of Chinese language emails, asking about 4L.com, many were the same email for different characters. I would have never seen the aeiouv side of it on my own, but now they were only asking for the domains that did not have those letters. Sure enough, I figured it out on another forum what was going on, I did a quick spreadsheet export, got a highlighter, and started circling which was like winning lotto tickets. Today I probably have about 200 4L.com's left, I sold about 70 of my chips, kept 3 of my untouchables without vowels, but it was a gift, and there was absolutely no other end users out there for domains like ZKXJ etc... The people that owned them for several years knew exactly what was up, as they had the traffic, and inquiries, it was as easy as putting 10 in a bundle, and putting it into escrow, and getting $22K payout in a few days, rinse, and repeat, it was simply amazing, and it came around xmas which was even better.

You like copyd my story:) out of those 400 I had like 150 of those so called CHIPS

I didn't have have 150, about half of that, damn vowels. But wow congrats on having 150 chips out of 400, v did me in a bit also.

It was one of those one time events, I hope you were able to capitalize.

Its a Law of Nature...

Anything which rises has to fall one day when it reaches the maturity level...

But as far as 4L is concerned IMO, there is price fall only related to the CHIPs. So u can say its a steady phase which has come down to a halt.

Since the technology is in rise and recently there was much demand for the VR, AR 4L Domains, so its clearly evident that the non-chips has now taken over the CHIPs and it will continue.

CHIPs boom is over like the Crypto.

4L was not a pump and dump. Some people didnt understand or accept the value of 4Ls so when the market went "crazy" they called it "pump and dump"(Just like when people didnt buy the right names at the right times they come on NP and say "prices are too high"-no, ur timing is just off).

If .com was and is still king how would short names like 4Ls be pump and dump when they are still relevant today and activelyselling? yes prices might not be at their peak now, but thats not odd. prices often go up and down. who says prices wont go up in the future considering supply keeps shrinking?

Am tired of comments like pump and dump and this and that. sounds to me like whining from people who didnt do the right buying at the right time. I didnt either with 4Ls, but am not complaining. they were a good category of domains to invest in. the smart pple are making money, the blockheads r complaining or saying it the chinese who messed it up(how are more investors in domains bad for us?).

IMO Chinese premiums were pumped and random 4L were overvalued.

Ask yourself who were the primary buyers, check ename stats before and after this pump and dump.

Many domainers were able to buy, flip, and trade into this hysteria.

Nothing changed in the market, all these domains were going to Chinese buyers, for what purpose, because they fell in love with domains overnight.

You need to understand how things work in China, and capital controls, this is bigger than all of us.

There is no reason for zkxj .com domain to be worth $2500, no traffic, no inquiries, simply an vehicle.

If it wasn't pump and dump how does the price fall by 2/3 in 2 years?

Where you not one of those bumpers? Who pushed those 5 letter chip.nets?

456,976 total 4L.com
160,000 4L.com without A, E, I, O, U, V (Total # of 4L CHIPS)

Price X Market Size = Marketcap

$2.500 per 4L CHIP = 400 million dollar maketcap
$2.000 per 4L CHIP = 320 million dollar marketcap
$1.500 per 4L CHIP = 240 million dollar marketcap
$1,000 per 4L CHIP = 160 million dollar marketcap
$500 per 4L CHIP = 80 million dollar marketcap
$100 per 4L CHIP = 16 million dollar marketcap

4,000 CHIPS at $2500 each would be $10,000,000
4,000 X $10 renewal X 6 years = $240,000 in renewal fee's.
Net = $9,760,000

Those are some pretty numbers to watch!! Being realistic though, those are ideal numbers. Someone who bought so many of them at such a price would start selling atleast some of them at lets say $50 and sell upto $2,500 thereby still holding onto some. And perhaps, finally selling them when on their way back to the dip.

the P&D wasn't so much with 4 letters, it was everything after 4 letter.com

like 4 letter .info with BBCC patterns, then 5 letters .mobi, then 6 letters and so on

if you already owned chinesepremium.com before chinesepremium.com became chips, then it's still all gravy

imo...

That is a good line of thought. Maybe yes!! It ignited a chain reaction. If gold increased in value, people started investing in silver as well and that too spiked up.

Sorry but, thats just ignorant.

I’ve sold thousands of LLLL.com over the years and always will. This past month I sold hudn $3800, cwat $1200, wobz $3500, reeq $2500, rubk $1850 and some other smaller sales.

4L with decent letters all have a bright future. 4L chips and such with so-so letters should get a bump up in price again this winter like they have the past two years.

Those are some good sales!
However, I do not agree much on the "bump up price again this winter" part. People who are looking forward to invest extra money are siding with crypto-currencies and with them in such focus, I don't think there is going to be investment flow in 4L domain market as of now.

The good four letter dot coms are still worth a lot more than $2500 and I get offers over $2500 for these (and turn them down) regularly.
