We have all kinds of highlight lists. I thought I would open one with 2002 or earlier .COM original registration - basically fifteen years old or older .COM even though they may have dropped (mine based on Godaddy)

When a domain drops or gets transferred to a new registrar, sometimes the registration date resets.
However, the original creation date remains the same.

You're wrong about transfers. Transfers will never reset the registration date. When a domain drops, yes, the registration date does get reset.

That said, the original point by @HotKey remains. What is the point of the reg date resets?

Over the years I have seen many domains wanted threads specifying domains of a certain age.

While I don't have time to find examples, I have done enough transfers over the years that I believe I have seen resets on occasion when consolidating auction wins from Snapnames or Namejet to Godaddy.

To take one example of how a drop affects the registration date use a domain from the first post...
CreditMarketplace.com Whois shows a creation date of 2002 but a Whois history going back to 1998.

I'm willing to wager that a transfer does not cause a reset of the registration date. Were the auctions for domains caught on the drop or private auction domains or expired domains being auctioned by partner registrars? If the first, that will cause a reset of the reg date. If the 2nd it will not reset the reg date. If the 3rd, it will not cause a reset of the reg date

CreditMarketplace.com Whois shows a creation date of 2002 but a Whois history going back to 1998.

This means the domain was likely dropped and re-registered. This does not mean it's registration date was reset due to a transfer. Check the complete whois history and it should show the drop info.

Please note: Current registration date and first date of creation are different. The latter is immutable. The former? Well that can change if the domain was deleted/dropped and re-registered

To make the thread fruitful, you need to eliminate the dropped domains. Most people when asking for aged domains, are referring to domains registered from a certain date without dropping.
If a name was registered in 2002 and dropped in 2005. Then registered again last-month...then that's not what people are looking for.

To make it simple: basically if you do a whois search, the registration date should show 2002 or earlier..

The thread is not solid without this distinction.

I mean names registered yesterday, may have a drop history dating back to 2002. Would you buy my aged handreg from yesterday(aka once upon a time 2002) for good money?

There should be no drops between 2002 to present.

I concur with this.
