question .NZ, .US registrations

Gentlemen,

There are two quick question in here. In brief: my customer is a UK based business with interests in .NZ ans .US domain (exact match to his company name, names available, not taken). However, no physical presence in these regions.

As far as I know, it's okay to register .NZ name (not a 'conflicting' name and no presence required), however, I have never registered names in there and not familiar with local registrars. Advice will be appreciated (responsiveness of support, nice control panel, pricing policies, everything). Thanks in advance.

As for the .US, I am in serious doubts. I know that the registry does not really police these registrations, however, this is for business, not for a personal blog, you understand the difference, so the question is: if I will buy a mail address in the US, will it be okay? As far as I know, 'business interests' or even 'cultural links' are not counted and will not be taken into consideration by the registry in case of routine check ups. Will a postal address work for my customer?

Thanks in advance.

NZ is fine for international buyers. In term of registrars, IWantMyName is probably the most recognisable NZ-based registrar so you may want to start looking with them. Pricing is cheaper than GoDaddy for NZ domains.

Gd is not offering .nz at the moment. That was the first what I tried.

You must have a "presence" in the USA in order to register a .us name. So go get a P.O. Box. That's a whopping $60/year. Then if anyone contests your "presence," you can always file a Fictitious Business Name Statement for a whopping $20 in lots of counties. Of course Neustar doesn't appear to police registrations. They're so full of shit about everything, including marketing promises, that they'll allow any scumbag from a third-world country to own registrations without challenge. That's why the extension is so lack-luster at the moment. Little credibility. If you want to challenge a .us registration, you can, and you could win. The problem is, there is no guarantee that YOU will get that registration. It would merely drop then go to whomever is the luckiest backorder sucker.
