status-resolved Requiring an Avatar to Post a Link?

I did a search and ran through the "FAQ, Rules, and Help Guides" but I didn't find an answer the answer to this issue.

In trying to quote and reply to two separate posts that contained links, I received the following error,

You must set an avatar before you can post links.

Is this a glitch or a "feature"?

I kind of like my generic any man avatar and would prefer to keep it.

Correct, all non-paying members must have an avatar as of Jan. 1st 2015 as an added preventative measure against bots and spam. Thanks for pointing out that it wasn't mentioned in the Help guides. By the way, Paid Accounts and VIP members bypass this requirement. You could also save the generic avatar and upload it as your avatar if you'd like.
