With 1000 new extensions in 2013. Will this dilute the value of older extensions? ie. .com .net .org .biz .info.

Newer extensions like the xxx with short names LL or LLL could take away value from other extensions. Although there's currently a $100 reg fee for the xxx.

Will these newer extensions ever ramp up to top level status?

There are already many threads on this subject.

Mods - can we maybe consolidate all these threads on the exact same subject?

There are not 1000 new extensions coming out in 2013.

With the legal issues, contention sets, objections, and the queue itself this will take a least 2-3 years minimum, not a couple months.

The best generics are near the back of the queue and have the most legal issues.

Some will succeed and others will fail, you picked up a bad example, .xxx is not wanted by the adult community, they will fail, and when they start losing money they will have to close down shop, and so will many others, operating a TLD is not free nor cheap.

I believe that eventually they will. It will take time though.

I don't believe that .com will be king forever...
No kings/kingdoms have lasted forever.

You're not exactly religious, are you.

They were talking about the .com when they wrote that in the bible.:imho:

if they become normalized the value will go down for established TLD's.

but some think that even if the new TLD's became normalized that it will still "only increase the value of .com"

China favors .com, while you see the silicon valley bootstrappers may jump on colombian domains and alike, China will be establishing more and more .com properties. who's bigger china or silicon entrepreneurs?

what do you consider 'normalized'. are .net and .org normalized? they're still worth less than .com. in all the other extention releases, none have become normalized by what i assume would be your definition being equal to .com. not sure what makes these new ones any different.

yeah, like .net and .org.. only more so - like people being willing to go to .anything even though they dont recognize the particular TLD. i dont know why people keep going to extremes like being "equal to .com" if that ever happens we can track that progress but it wouldnt be overnight and plenty of time to plan as a domainer.

.company will dilute .biz
that's all

who knows exactly when .company comes out?
the last kilometer might take more than the bank bills

I'm not convinced of this (.company). Biz never was really attractive. Don't know why.
But .co is promoted for company (and lots of other possibilities commercial, etc...)
For the moment .CO is at 1,5 million registrations, a milestone !
Very good marketing by the CO-registry (and godaddy at the super-bowl).

I suspect .CO is STILL getting additional investment from the Colombian government. That registry is throwing money around at a non-sustainable rate.

Value of .com would be the same as it was in before, no extension is going to disturb it.

I dont think so: old extensions always have worth more then new ones.

Yeah, maybe there are a lot of .coms registerred but half of them or more are....parked domains and never get sold. And that won't change also, I guess.

Value of .com would be the same as it was in before, no extension is going to disturb it.
