Also forgot to mention that you could use a 2-step approach. As mhdoc suggests, you can setup a basic WP blog to establish your identity, then either drive traffic to a separate portfolio site or incorporate the two. Many professionals successfully use this strategy.

Brad, Josh and Tom are all correct. If you want to be taken as a serious professional DO NOT use a freebie address. It's an instant red flag that signals SPAM and you may not even make it through the junk filter. Personally, I use my dedicated biz addresses when contacting prospects...

That's Rick London's firm. They were one of the groups who participated in the recent auction of Toys.com (bidding $5M). Certainly legit, but most likely only interested in Tier 1 premiums. Sans the "GoShopping" they might have a look. :)
