Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

"Where was this "said"? thanks." I have an account executive assigned to my account due to the volume of business that I do. She said they were having a meeting about it right now and were trying to figuring out if they were going to fix it or not. I suspect the 48 hour figure that she quoted...

Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

Here's a question: Of the registrars not doing this, who's the cheapest for a hand reg'ed .com?

Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

Can't say. I rarely buy anything except the .com domains due to the relative lack of working codes for the other common extensions. Yeah, the whole thing is dumb. I have two servers churning 24-7 through Moz data and cross-referencing the domains against preferred dictionary words. I'm pretty...

Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

GoDaddy says they're now place a 48-hour hold on new registrations of domains that expired. I didn't call NameCheap, but based on how their site is treating dropped domains, they're also doing the same thing. Anyone else running into this issue?

    GoDaddy Discount Codes

cjAFF30 also works for 30% of back orders. Just used it.

    l33t domains--Any future?

133t speak isn't a worthy investment. Any domain that asks end users to ponder how it is typed is bad.

Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

Or they're using that classic bad customer support tactic: if you can't convince 'em, confuse 'em. And If you can confuse 'em, just play dumb.

    Is GoDaddy's website down?

Charming. They also took down a few of the older domain blocks. One has a very old server I've been in the middle of migrating OFF of. Someone remind what purpose Anon serves? I'll concede, GD should be prepared for this sort of crap. But, still . . . some of us have no choice but to...

    GoDaddy Bargain Bin

GoDaddy's pretty efficient at selecting their best stuff to retain or auction. If it's in the bargain bin, it's a dog.

Rick Schwartz predicts huge scandal will break tomorrow

Remind me to immediately ignore anything "Rick Schwartz" in the future. "Huge scandal"? Shitty? Sure. Huge? Not so much.

New Bill Could Allow U.S. Government to Shut Down Domain Names

It doesn't really change much. It's a typical cheap politician gambit so when the 2012 election rolls around, they can lean on the entertainment industry and say, "See? We got you that nice shiny legislation to smack around all those nerds with. So, now are you gonna pay up or what?" It's...

Developer quit halfway through the project

Are you taking any usable code away? If you're getting something, I'd offer up that a partial refund is fair. If you're not getting any usable code, I'd argue that a full refund may be in order. But, from years of experience, I'd advise you that anything that allows you to just walk away...

What extentions do unrecognised states use?

I'd suspect a lot of states would lean toward their sponsor state or a state with which they have an affinity. For example, Northern Cyprus favors using .nc.tr underneath Turkey's TLD. Nagorno-Karabakh has a nkr.am under Armenia's TLD. Abkhazia, on the other hand, seems to favor .org...

Anyone sold domain to Yahoo, or tried?

I would generally think that if a major player cared for it, they would have found you.

    Googlenet to kill Domaining?!

There should be a sticky added for "Before you post a 'Will _____ kill domaining?' thread." It seems like that would be the best solution. Of course, that solution does run the risk of killing domaining. So . . .

How to choose a coder/company for development?

I've never had syphilis. Doesn't mean I need to try it.

    Should I Renew These ?

EveningCompanion.com is the only 100% keeper. The rest would require a commitment to developing.

    Facebook to kill Domaining?!

I don't know that that really hurts domain sales. The same people that are now on Facebook and Twitter were the folks who used to make really, really awful Geocities and Tripod and Angelfire websites. You're never going to cure the criminally stupid, who want to believe the internet is magical...

NOOB question about pagerank domains. Your help is appreciated.

Wow, PageRank is a contentious topic. Let's cover what it is and isn't, first . . . 1. PageRank isn't the end-all of domaining. Not by a long shot. 2. PageRank is purely a tally of the value of all the inbounds links a page receives. And nothing more. 3. PageRank doesn't measure...

Registrars now blocking registration of dropped domains

I assume no one knows of any registrar that's going to offer anything in the neighborhood of GoDaddy's $1.99 discount codes on new registrations, right? This looks like it's going to be a permanent thing from what I'm seeing right now.
