They may be updating some things, With a website and registrar they kinda have to do it real-time or if they backend was updating or maintenance they may have had to remove the option for a moment.

I have 2 questions about GoDaddy?

1. Auth Code and move is the only way I know of. Which is the way I would go, I am not a fan of godaddy. I transfered to Namecheap in under one hour away from godaddy which was amazing timing. 2.not sure about search for specific stuff on auctions.

advice Is WHOIS protection a bad idea?

1 thing to think about is I am trying to contact the owner of a said domain that has expired. He has whois protection and the whois protection email is not working because the domain name is expired. Food for thought.

You Should be able to install StopForumSpam its made for most forum softwares, also Use Recaptcha and depending on the software they may have other plugins to also help. You can geographicly blacklist them using IP Addresses. But then they use Proxies.
