The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I’ve operated with that group to a large extent on the basis of trust. They’re good people, they’re honorable people, ethical, responsible people

Just a pro-tip: Someone looking to scam you is not going to come across as dishonest or unfriendly. A problem occurs when you delude yourself into believing that you have some kind of divinely-inspired power of "discernment", which causes you to abandon common sense and due caution.

The term "con-man" is literally shorthand for confidence man, someone who gains your confidence and uses it to rip you off.

Because the first three times wasn't enough.

This strikes me as avast! concern trolling about "[political opinions], [...] racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, [being] used to discriminate against people throughout history", while completely disregarding the fact that the political opinions of the subset of Epik's customers that inspired the hack are in favor of such discrimination. Very tonedeaf.

Your dismissal / criticism of opinions you don't like is unsurprising. Being a "researcher", I'd expect you to be more neutral.

Instead I find your opposition to free speech and your support of criminal activity to silence others alarming.

Texas GOP.

(If this is off-topic feel free to remove it. It was a response to the post referring to other recent hacks.)

There was also another one -

https://theintercept.com/2021/09/28/covid-telehealth-hydroxychloroquine-ivermectin-hacked/

The data from the Cadence Health and Ravkoo sites was provided to The Intercept by an anonymous hacker who said the sites were “hilariously easy” to hack, despite promises of patient privacy. It was corroborated by comparing it to publicly available information. The Intercept is not publishing any individual patient data and has taken steps to secure the data. After The Intercept reached out, Cadence Health’s Roque Espinal-Valdez said he shut the platform down, not wanting any part in profiting off of Covid-19 “quackery.”

Isn't it a bit embarrassing when you are basically at the mercy of your own development team, and the only way you can see your own code is after a massive data breach?
It is odd but this is a strange industry at the best of times.

The Epik data breach is political in nature — here's why you should care

"Given the prevalence of hacking, it's concerning to see a group of hackers target an organization and its members due to their political beliefs."

Well, that is not going to make the mountains of potential legal issues, liabilities, and bad PR go away.

You also have the practical issue that Epik = Rob Monster. A lot of the issues go far deeper than just the company name itself.

Brad

Rebranding as a whole new Registrar with a new name that is going to focus more on the business aspect of things might at least be looked at as a step in the right direction in any future legal case.

IMO

Other related terms include snake oil salesman, a classic...and charlatan.

It is way too early to even worry about that stuff. Epik has quite a mess they need to resolve first.
In a baseball game, this is more like the 1st inning still.

There is an on-going debate about the effective use of Ivermectin, with evidence it does work if used early enough.

A far left website calling every unapproved idea a conspiracy or fraud isn't proof of anything other than actual MD's proving care they believe works.

I prefer treatments with unimpeachable empirical data, but regardless the point of my post was just to mention the other recent hack, not discuss COVID treatments.

I have never, ever claimed to be "neutral", and would never do such a thing. As previously stated, it is not possible for me to pretend to be "apolitical" due to the fact that the validity of my humanity is a political wedge issue. That was not a "dismissal of opinions I don't like", it was pointing out that avast!'s concerns rang hollow since the goons that Epik platforms are in favor of the persecution that avast! was apparently concerned about. I can't say I agree with avast!'s take, but even if I did, the article still comes off as incredibly smug and insincere because of the way they frame the political views of Epik's unsavory clients.

This stuff can take years to sort out, but the rebranding can happen right away.

As part of the rebranding Epik can put customers security and satisfaction as their first priority by becoming more transparent and forthcoming and doing their best to help those who have received an actual damage because of all This.

I do not oppose freeze peach and I do not support or condone criminal activity, as I have explicitly stated in this thread multiple times. This is a ridiculous straw-man that has no place on a supposedly "professional" forum.

Wasn't security and privacy a top priority in the past as well? How did that work out.
Fool me once...

Just renaming Epik something else and moving on is impractical for a large number of reasons.

And the summary of the information you posted was biased and inflammatory; suggesting actual MD's were running a network of websites to commit medical fraud.

Every website in the Epic database has been exposed in the exact same way without the political commentary.

The hack was political. It was an open attack on free speech. You even liked this post which states:

"Don't platform fascists for short-term gain. You will end up with nothing but long-term pain."

You are not the arbiter of what speech is allowed. All speech is allowed by law.

Earlier post you insisted "hate speech" was not free speech. You contradict yourself.

No, I don't. Nothing I've said is contradictory. In order to maintain the free speech of marginalized communities, broad dissemination of hate speech and fascism must be quashed. The only reason you think it's contradictory is because you have a childish and shallow understanding of the topic.

All speech is allowed by law.

This is absolutely not true, not even in the United States.

While most speech is free speech, certain speech such as incitement language, some unqualified medical advice, etc. is not lawful.

Also, the entire world is not the United States. Epik served customers around the world.
Canada has different laws. So do many other countries.

Most of Europe directly bans things to do with Nazis (and related groups) and Holocaust denial, among other things.

By definition, objectionable speech is free speech.

Rebranding or no? Silence vs. full disclosure? Fix the existing code vs... ?

Zugzwang

Zugzwang is a situation found in chess and other turn-based games wherein one player is put at a disadvantage because of their obligation to make a move; a player is said to be "in zugzwang" when any possible move will worsen their position.

You are nit-picking.

Epik is an American company. You just posted an article slandering American medical doctors for having unapproved, professional opinions developed by treating patients, not in an office analyzing spread sheets.
