Hey all.
Just wondered. Is world news (wn.com) a domain investor aswell as news site? I have noticed they purchase alot of domains and point them to wn.com.
Is this purely for investment or just to do with seo and website building.

Sorry about it being abit random its jusy something that was on my mind ( plus they have brought one or 2 .org / .net domains that i have the .com for.

Cheers Danny

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Damn do they have that many. If they buy that much I doubt they buy aftermarket for top dollar.

Probably they buy in expired GoDaddy auctions or namejet? Like a ninja?

They have been doing it for years and have a great portfolio of super premium names, including country.coms, valuable dictionary words.com etc.

Does anyone know the name of the company/guy? I think I have read somewhere that they are from Singapore, but can't find more info.

Ye but they may not buy directly from you.

If they want some of your domain they will come to you in disguise

Thank you Riz M. Actually, we are interested in buying one premium name from their portfolio. They seem to 301 all their domains to subpages of wn.com, none of them are on the markets. I have found few of their contact emails tho...

Did anyone try to reach them with an offer?

I suspect they owned a lot in the past, and eventually dropping them one by one. But they may still be buying? There is no seo advantage or typein advantage anymore with owning many domains.
..........
How can you benefit from someone else's popularity in today's world. I think yhis is possible. Let me give an example. There might be a popular site named keyword.biz, and when someone searches for keyword.com,
Google searches for keyword.biz and says , did you really mean .com..(not sure about .com, but such things happen). If you want to benefit from such searches, you may create a site like my-keyword.biz, and although you are not at the top for sure, you may be the second search result, if there is not much competition.
....
Sometimes my domains get 10K visits per day (but maybe only for one day) according to Sedo. Is it all bot visits: I don't think so. Most likely this happens because of strange properties of Chrome and Google. If people visit your site by mistake once, very likely it will be visited many more times, because of autocomplete etc.

Where are you going to see who owns what domains?

is it like a reverse whois or something?

Whois data is one source, but usually, owners add privacy protection and you get just a registrars email.(some registrars forward messages to owners)
I have created a process for domain owner research, there are several other methods for discovering contact info.

Even if you find a decision-maker, no guarantee you will get a response. The best thing is to be real and honest about your intentions.

Agreed. Discovered them via Whois search for similar domains to mine.

Contacted them. Never a reply.

I'm guessing they are domainers. The Bottomfeeder kind.

Rich but goes to dollar store and even then complains that one toilet paper roll is a dollar.

Thought you’d never ask, my friend.
Was about to ask the same thing :)

DomainIQ, but i believe costs money?

Would love a free service, if such option exists.

DomainIQ does cost money and you don't get 100,000 names for $49.99 a month.

If you think wn.com as a company owning 122,000 domains imagine one single guy in New York City owning 100,000k all by himself ?

PM for his name so you can check. He's probably an old school NPer.

WN has some really good developed websites on their domains. To find out how many sites they've developed just google: "This site is owned and managed by WN Network." Mostly country/city name sites are been developed with geographical information, travel guide, etc.
