I don't know about you but I use GD's bulk search feature several times a day for the past two years. I considered it to be a valuable tool for finding a few flakes of domain gold amid the chaos of stream bed junk. But now it returns a significant number of false positive search results in the form of Premium Domain listings making the tool a big waste of my time.

Here's how it goes........ I copy paste 100 names from my Excel spreadsheet to the GD bulk domain search box. I click 'search' and the tool lists the names that are available for hand reg.

I click Proceed To Checkout. I am then redirected to this generic search page:

What???

When I search for one of the domains individually I discover that the domain(s) is for sale via Premium listing.

But again when I click Proceed To Checkout --so I can at least see the price-- I am redirected to the generic search page.

When I first encountered this problem 2 weeks ago I thought it would get fixed in a day or two. But every day it's the same issue.

This glitch curtails hand regging AND the potential purchase of domains listed in Premium.

This run around needs to be fixed but just as important, there needs to be a way for domainers to be able to opt out of having Premium Domain listings included in their bulk search results when they are looking for domains to hand reg.

Anyone else having this problem?

@Joe Styler, would you like to comment on this?

@Joe Styler I'm still having the problem where some names show up as available but when I click ProceedToCheckout the names disappear.

That seems like it might be a cookie issue. I know the bulk check was broken but it has been fixed and I even tried a couple times two days ago to load in 490 or so names at a time and was able to get the available ones to show up quicker than before and pop them into the cart. I did various lists and tlds as a test just to make sure that its working still.
When I am in and out of a ton of people's accounts at work and I do a search like in your pictures above and the cookies still think I am in another account it goes to the empty account the way you are showing me. That is the only thing I can think of, the cart stops thinking you are you when you click from the search to the cart.

OK, I'll clear the cookies next time that happens and see if it clears the issue. Thanks.

On another problem (unrelated to Bulk Search) If I find a name for hand reg on GD and click Proceed to Cart (in bulk or single search) I'm taken to my cart. Before check out it asks me to sign in. When I log in, the domain is removed from my cart and I'm redirected to the home page and I have to start all over.

That sounds like the same issue to me. The search thinks you are one customer and when you login the cart thinks you are another customer. It is not making the connection that you are the same person. So something is preventing that continuity, could be blocked cookies, an over aggressive ad blocker, etc. I see it happen most often with cookies, especially if you have multiple accounts. I would use a browser in private or incognito mode etc so there is no history there when you begin your search, that should help the process work as the search and cart will only have one session to deal with.

Aside from the false positives on availability.............. More problems with the the bulk search tool the past few days. No results after a full minute and then it just times out and I get a blank page. Anyone else getting this? How many weeks and months does it take for GD to get its bulk search working properly again?

@Keith DeBoer I've had that happen in the past (a few months ago). I actually don't use GD Bulk Search much anymore because it has been so poor.

I used to use the GD bulk tool all the time.

Since it started having problems at the end of last year I don't even bother anymore.

I check it occasionally, but it is clear GD has better things to do than commit any resources to fixing a problem that clearly has an effect on its bottom line.

If one can't check names at GD easily, one might go elsewhere.

I have not checked it recently, but I don't want to even bother any more.

I have already found replacements and usually wind up giving that business to another co.

Who cares about cookies. The bottom line is names show up as available when in fact they are premium listings. It's ridiculous that this has been going on for so long. If it's me or somebody else cookies should play no role. Remove all premium listings from showing up as available registrations and this long ongoing problem will be fixed. I checked only 7 names yesterday and 3 out of the 7 showed as available until I added them to the cart and the ones that were premium listings disappeared from the cart. If you check each name individually it will show as a premium listing but when you check multiple names in the bulk checker they show as available until you add them to the cart. I can't believe that the Godaddy technical team can't figure this out already. Ridiculous!!

The correct solution would be to use directly the primary whois servers for each TLD. Of course through the software

here is maybe help tip I noticed:

1 - use incgonito window. solves all cookie issues if any are there.

2- once done searching, use COPY function. in that window you notice:
in capital letters all domains available for you to reg.
in small letters, all domains regged and available to buy.. premium etc

hope ot help

the tool works perfectly fine for me.

it just doesn't distiguish between available and for sale domains. to make that disticntion follow tip I Gave above. after search: click COPY ALL.. then in capital letters are all available regs. in lower case are for sale regged items. hope to help

@alcy, Thanks for the tip. It's very helpful for the short term. However, I think the point I and others are trying to make is that GoDaddy customer's shouldn't have to visit a domain forum thread to find a work around for an issue that's been reported many times over a two month period.

I don't get why you lot put up with this. Just move on, there are plenty of options. This have been going on for a long time.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I was out of town for a few days and I am just catching back up. I was under the impression that the bulk search was fixed but since you are having trouble it must not be working correctly and I will bring this back to the developers. I am sorry there is a problem and I will do my best to figure it out and get it resolved.

Another issue. Names that are actually available when you go to check out will show an error page and will dissappear when you try to checkout. I add the names back into the bulk tool and it will repeat again and show an error page. I will then start over doing them one by one on the homepage and they all mysteriously appear in the cart. This happened multiple times today and many times in the past.

There's many. For one Uniregistry let you scan 5k names in one search and its the fastest one I have experienced. Hexonet if you looking at loads of extensions.

NameBright bulk search also allows 5,000 at a time and is quite fast

EDIT: I think it only does .com / .net

Schilling (Uniregistry) and Reberry (NameBright-HugeDomains) have their hands in the pot everywhere they can possibly put it. They are always actively seeking out names so they are the last bulk tool I would use.

Godaddy is a huge domainer too so who do you suggest we should use for a smooth bulk searching experience?

GD is more worried about upselling hosting, websites etc.....and less worried about domain registration. Not saying they don't have there hands in the pot too but I would think far less then the other two. Who to use? Great Question!
