Oh geez. JOAN RIVERS? I didn't see it. Now I'm glad I didn't.

Maybe the people at Network Solutions knew something we didn't when they came up with that "GoGranny" spoof...

I forget her name off hand but the GoGranny 'model' for NetSol is a living legend of an actress,
she has been doing film and tv forever!! and still is doing it..

Did a scan recently on a large list of words and found these available if anyone wants them

MiniSeries.co
Photographical.co
Communicates.co

The goal of the ad was clearly, imo, to confuse and startle visitors into visiting the site to learn more. Risky. Not the best use of the ad, perhaps.

The numbers should come out soon on response and we'll see.

Don't think it brought credibility to the .CO extension at all.

Really thought the message was lacking...

I'm really not kidding when I say this...

...that was one of the worst commercials I've ever seen. Zero excitement. (insert "crickets" sound here). Ugh.

The GoDaddy .co girl was a joke, a bad one, forgetable.

It'll get talked about tomorrow on the various morning and evening tv shows as Joan Rivers is a persistent star amongst that crowd. But yeah, a bit of a snore.

Agreed, they had to counter the sexist trend and they did in both commercials. She's as well known a celebrity as they could possibly have gotten. Im glad they didn't pick another "bombshell". I honestly still don't have any idea who Gillian is...

Though I haven't yet been able to view the commercial, it has people talking so it seems to have worked to some degree, even if the general opinions about it among domainers are falling on the negative side.

As for Gillian, I could be wrong, but I believe she is [or was] a Fitness Trainer for a reality TV show some years back. Not sure what she has done prior or since, aside her new digs as a GD Girl.

On a side note, anyone have .CO's listed at SEDO's / GreatDomains Premium Auctions coming up?

-Regards

Just checked out the current ratings on Fox for the super bowl ads. The Rivers ad is just below 50% interestingly it rates highly on the worst rated and the most rated which means that regardless of if you like it or not it provoked some kind of emotion.

As someone mentioned before the most important aspect of the ad will have been to get people talking so if it has done that then good.

I dont think that people were expecting the whole world to change after one ad, I have not called in to work and told the boss to stuff it as I am now a paper millionaire!

Anthony.

Awful commercial! At least they could not disclose Joan's face in the TV version, so people would have to go watch it online! :D

They didn't even change the logo for people visiting GoDaddy.CO. Total joke.

Joan Rivers .co SuperBowl Ad

It is indeed an abhorrent advert from an creative point of view.
However, GoDaddy have form in successful marketing to the masses.
In regards to Joan Rivers, she is well known here in the UK, and I hope globally? Certainly more recognizable than the other two Godaddy girls, whom I suspect no one outside the US would be aware of.
Also, she does have a known talent for talking, so hopefully its written into her contract to name drop .CO at every given opportunity. She's a controversial figure, who provokes controversy - Its well within the Go Daddy marketing model.
Will be interesting to see how the masses react, to what must be a rather confusing advert to the average superbowl watchee. Lets hope this confusion leads to intrigue. Cheers CV

I thought the NS thing was real spooky. Saw it a few days ago. NS comes out looking bad because they tried to spoof GoDaddy girls of the past and just assumed that this GoDaddy.co one would be also a bombshell type. It wasn't so now they have a bit of egg on their faces. Godaddy still gets all the exposure. That's why it always pays to be fresh and innovative. Clearly, NS wasted a lot of money on something they tried to spoof. They gambled but it didn't work out.

Eliot from EliotsBlog picked Joan Rivers a month ago. A few people around had said that it may be an older, ultra successful, entrepreurial-type woman, and they were right. Joan Rivers is not only a wellknown personality, but also a businesswoman. GoDaddy decided to go in another direction and the commercial will be remembered for it's 180 degree turn. It had some shock value and that's always memorable.

You could feel that maybe Godaddy was going to do something a little different because they had been running with the 'hot bikini babe, buy domains' angle for a few years now. Joan Rivers is in fact a more serious choice for a spokesperson as opposed to the previous selections. Joan is smart and an avid conversationalist and this is always helpful for advertising. As far as Danica and Jillian are concerned, I (and many other people) had never heard of them when they appeared on GoDaddy (basically because they come from niche professions), and that goes for the other girls as well. Joan Rivers is as mainstream as they come, especially in North America and the UK. She has been a mainstream TV celebrity for decades.

At the end of the day, a pretty good mainstream choice.

Joan Rivers might get people to talk, but they will be talking about her and GoDaddy, not .CO. In the end it was good deal for Bob Parsons not the domaineres that invested in the extension.
Most people didn't even noticed the .CO part of the commercial...

Oprah makes people aware of her books, network etc. in between the lines of her constant monologue/dialogue. She seems to be the focus yet her plugging tactics are some of the best around. Joan Rivers has a similar method and she will apply it with .CO. Maybe not what you would expect, but nonetheless, highly effective. I believe Oprah's numbers speak for themselves. Her way is obviously extraordinarily successful, like it or not.

Did you really just compare Oprah to Joan Rivers? Is Joan Rivers really the right choice to help build credibility in something? I think not.

They would have been better off not even having a .CO girl, and making a 30 second pitch for the extension instead. If I didn't already know what .CO was the commercial didn't do much to make me want to buy it.

What J Rivers says goes in one ear and out the other. They would be better off if B Parsons just stood there for the whole comercial yelling ".CO means Company"
