I'm looking for the safest place to register domains. I have been using GoDaddy for a while, but I fear that their security measures are too weak.

All you need to know is the last four digits of someone's credit card and the address they live at (There might be one other thing).

I don't own a ton of high profile domains but I do have a few that are worth protecting. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the safest place to register domains is.

Or perhaps you think GoDaddy is good - as long as you buy privacy on the domains perhaps?

Let me know what you think as well as best practices to protecting domains from theft.

There's only so much you can do with account security online. Even if someone knew your last four digits of your credit card and address, they would still need your GoDaddy account number AND account pin to do anything over the phone. I've never had trouble with GoDaddy, but I also never have trouble keeping my account information private and I don't leave my credit card laying around. :)

Fabulous.com has some of the best security for your domains - most of it for free too.

Have you tried calling GD and seeing what they can do for you to protect your domains?

What mayed said. Spot on.

I've been with GoDaddy since they started, never a problem and customer service second to none. I've always contacted them by phone with problems that I created or problems that weren't problems after all.

Just my 2¢

Fabulous for cheap pricing, security and good support.

Moniker for cheap pricing, security, and no support.

Depends if you value support or not :)

Oh how true that is. I have been an ETP for a bunch of years and they used to be great but no longer.

It's not so much the registrar being safe, most try their best to implement security measures, but the MAIN thing is that YOU do your best to protect your personal information. Keep your anti-virus up to date, DO NOT let your browser auto save passwords, in fact DO NOT store your passwords on your computer, keep them written down somewhere safe. Watch out for phishing scams, etc...

You are your best line of defense.

GoDaddy.com has enhanced security measures if you are an executive account holder.

It would be GoDaddy.com
I always register my domains name using GoDaddy.com than any other domains hosts.

Namecheap.com - quick, fast and reliable.

We really don't like GoDaddy's interface and in your face advertising.

No security issues with any registrar so far, but I will say Fabulous needs to either be more on top of their price comparisons with competitors, or, be more honest.

I've been using GoDaddy for a while and no probs yet... Besides, when do you go round telling people the last four digits of your credit card? You'd have to be mental to do that.

Thats the only real problem with Moniker your domains are safe but there's no support...... if something does go wrong.

Godaddy I have never had any issue's with them and there support is spot on.

Like others have mentioned above if it aint broke dont fix it. Providing you havent had any problems or more importantly heard of any problems regarding secruity of domains from go daddy then i personally see no reason to switch. However if you do make sure you listen to reviews from the above comments and do some of your own un biased research. Good luck!
