How to protect the .US domain if I can't meet nexus Requirement?

I believe there are many domainers outside (or no connections to) U.S still own .us domains, so how you guys make it safe? Tips needed, thanks in advance! :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I contacted both Name.com and Dynadot to find out when the promotion ends.

Dynadot responded that it ends Feb 28,2009 same as Endica.

Name.com said: "We are not informed as to when these
promotions will end
."

As I suspected this is most likely a promotion given by the Registry
where the cost to reg a .US domain is lowered.

Apparently these are the only registrars (so far) to pass on the deal
to the public.

So here's an updated summary of the .US specials mentioned in this
thread as of Jan 19,2008:

REGISTRAR------------Price-----------Expires

Encirca.com----------$ 3.99--------Feb 28,2009

Dynadot.com---------$ 4.99--------Feb 28,2009

Name.com------------$ 5.99--------???????????

Are the prices only for new registrations? It would be nice to know which registrars are offering specials on .us transfers. As most know, GD has significantly raised their prices on .us domains within the last year.

Certain registrars, including Godaddy used to offer the
presence requirement if you didn't meet it on your own...
I don't know if they still do it without there being a risk to the domain.

domainica,

I said you can in my response...but only if you qualify.

You have to be a citizen or otherwise have a presence here in the USA.

Yes, unfortunately it's only for new registrations.

If it helps NameCheap apparently has a $5.99 (24 hours only) domain transfer special starting to day, I think.

Coupon code for $5.99 transfers is: TRANSCHEAP"

Normal NameCheap .US transfer price is $8.88.

I received an email from dynadot today.

.US domain renewals and transfers are $7.99.

That's their normal rate.

This means the cost will reduce at least by $1 when you spend $500
in a calendar year or pre-load your account with $500.

.asia domain owners should be in asia imho(atleast with dynadot that is my experience).

If you own an account with dyna's bulk pricing enabled, .us names are now $3.99/Yr. :gl:

Is the $3.99 price only available for the promotional period
ending February 28?

Is the $3.99 just for new registrations or does it include
renewals and transfers?

:hi:

If you want to know anything about the .ASIA TLD then you should
go to the prime source which is: DotAsia.org
http://dotasia.org/

Excerpt from their FAQs:
http://dotasia.org/about/faq.html#q21

"Q21. Who can register names under .ASIA TLD?

Legal entities within the Pan-Asia and Asia-Pacific region (defined by ICANN as Asia/Australia/Pacific region; see http://www.icann.org/montreal/geo-regions-topic.htm)
can register names under .ASIA TLD."

one step more question...

well, i see it is not possible to register .us names by non usa citizens but if it is possible to be the owner of the domain if you buy it to previous owner who was usa citizen¿

for example, if you buy an .us name in an ebay's auction, is there any limitation in the transfer?

If your friend steals a car and then sells that car to you, does the sale
make the car any less stolen?

Do you have a friend in the US that could put the .US domain in under
their name?

I was able to get my wife's name (Karen), but not my own. Alas she doesn't care enough to use it ... I thought mail-a-t-karen.us was a much cooler idea than she did.

LOL - I have done that too on ocassion thinking people would like a domain gift such as that only to find out that most people do not think it is cool like I do and in reality I am simply a geek.
