The top reported sale with the keyword cloud is UpCloud.com for $100,000. The sale took place on Go Daddy in June of 2011. The domain is developed and located in Finland.

LiveCloud.com at $92,000 is the second highest reported cloud sale. This sale took place in 2011 as well, this time Sedo was the sales venue. The seller looks to be Groupee, Inc out of Seattle. The buyer LiveDrive out of Great Britain. I think they have screwed up the forwarding as the domain points to WWW.com which is parked at Uniregistry. I sent an email to them to let them know about their error. Live Drive does cloud storage.

The number three cloud related sale is CloudLet.com at $50,000. This is a recent sale by Name Administration, and the whois looks to still be DomainNameSales.com. The domain does not resolve.

I kind of like this blog post.... There are few keywords that will ever compete with the breadth of cloud, imho.
Next up..... I'll have to wait and see...

I love this series Ray. Cloud names were great but in my opinion they are junk now. The gTLDs are going to kill their value. If I can register a brandable where the suffix matches that of a new gTLD then I don't buy it. Cloud, Tech, Media, Design etc........can all be registered in a gTLD. I'm not saying that the dotcom doesn't have any value but now you have competition which I believe will lower it's value.

That is an interesting point, something I have thought about a lot. There will be people on both sides of that argument. It's not cut and dry as premiums blur the situation.

LLmedia.com is a niche I have followed and traded in, for full disclosure I still own 2 LLmedia.com names. I am always looking for these at reseller prices as all 676 have been registered for years. LL.media have a premium, I was going to get one before a domainer I know went out and registered every LL.media that was left months back.

$82.50 renewal a year, vs $8.80 a year, plus Donuts may play games down the road and raise prices, not saying they are going to but they have that ability.

I still like media,cloud and tech in .com, I am not adverse to getting some of those new gtlds but only at the right non premium pricing. Another disclosure, I own 2 .media names and one .tech with no plans to acquire anymore unless something great dropped through the cracks.

I do believe this will be debated for a long time. I expected more .media and .tech reported sales and they have not happened yet. So it will be interesting to see how these extensions mature.

I said blur as in the lines of the debate @hookbox sees these names in .com being devalued, I still like them. The premium pricing makes things apples to oranges.

The registries doing takebacks is not a good look and they should have the sense to avoid this. It's bad PR and a lot of people will never do business with an entity doing this, it sets a precedent for mistrust.

Yes, I agree. I will NEVER do business with Rightside. I will refuse to buy Rightside domains and I will tell as many people as possible what happened.

I was going to build a website on that domain. Can you imagine if I had put monetary resources, effort, and time into that domain? Only to have the registry pull it back because, "F#% you, we want to make more money."

Seriously?

.media is one of my favorite gTLDs. LL dotcom media names are great and will always hold value but I think the lower tier dotcom media names will be hit pretty hard especially when the new extensions gain more exposure. If I had a media company I would ultimately want both extensions and use the .media name. NameSilo has .media at $23 and $24 renewal which isn't bad. These new trend gTLDs go perfectly with certain right of the dots.

I love cloud names and have invested in them since 2005/2006. I think the iCloud.com sale would have been the biggest sale by far but the true price was never reported

The new extensions have had no impact on good cloud names in .com, and that wont change in the future.

I remember you as an early member talking about Cloud. You had CloudPros.com for a handreg right ?

Yeah thats right Ray, I sold quite a few of the cloud names I had (CloudLand.com, CloudPros.com, CloudCo.com, CloudGuru.com) and all have been developed which is great to see. I still have a few and get regular offers on them so cloud isnt going anywhere. I have also found german (.DE) cloud names sell very well with english keywords.
