The auction just wrapped up on DropCatch for 888828888.com. The domain has been registered a couple times going back to 2011. It was dropped and registered again, and then dropped again. Each time it has been a Chinese registrant.

DropCatch caught the domain name and there was a back and forth between First1 (the bidding agent for Chinese sites like Jinmi.com) and Nameword.

I wouldn't have bought it.. But then again, I'm sure there are names I've bought that both of those guys wouldn't want to touch either, lol. We all have our own reasons for wanting something and if they've got hundreds to waste on a 9N domain then more power to them :)

I bet when that day comes, the domain market that will exist at that time will be so strong and fully developed, that domains will still be traded at unprecedented values.

Similar to paper money, which used to be backed by gold, but let's face, now it only has value because everyone chooses to let it have value. Domains are headed in a similar direction.

That's my prediction anyway.

5N's have picked up well, 6N are on the path of rise, seen some good combinations in 7n selling good, Now this is 9N, I'm happy because I have some very good patterns in 10N. Maybe I will have a buyer soon. :xf.smile::xf.smile::xf.smile:. As @Domain Shane says, It's not at all dumb.

I never called anyone dumb. It's the idea of buying a 9N domain that's dumb.

No investor gets it right every time...

If NNN and NNNNN were the same price which would you choose? That's essentially what happened in this case with the buyer choosing the latter.

Those Chinese are really crazy for 8s I see. And you are right, there's something hot going on with numeric domains right now. I hope I would have invested in 5/6ns sooner.

This domains are already registered, even 15N contains 8 are registered.

This week I got very low offer ( $150 ) for 9N .com starting with 168

Given how 8 is the luckiest number in China, this kind of thing will be the norm in about 7 or 8 years I'd say.
Apparently Asian airlines give all Chinese customers flying to and from China flight numbers beginning with 8. They are SUPERsitious, not just a little stitious.

So if "First" (NameJet) or "Frist1" (DropCatch) is in your auction it's going to get "Expensive" - does that seem like an accurate assumption?

Just had a nice battle with First for mid-high $xxx. Every name I'm at so are they. If it's good they are ready to throw cash at it - so waiting 3 days if you see thier name just wont even matter - best outcome is they take a rest and miss auction.
