information 5 Cryptocurrency Domains and How They’re Used

Namecheap
One of the hottest topics in the mainstream media at the moment is the emergence of cryptocurrency into the public’s consciousness. Trending topics and niches usually means a lot of domain names being registered by investors hoping to capitalise on the trend.

According to Verisign, the terms “coin” and “crypto” were two of the top keywords registered in .COM domains during May 2017, showing the popularity of crypto domain names in recent months.

Here, we take a look at eight cryptocurrency domain names to see how they’re currently being used. There is a new class of ‘domains’ that exist solely within cryptocurrency systems that use extensions such as .ETH and .BIT. However, this article is focusing purely on .COM domains.

Cryptocurrency.com

The most obvious place to start with a list like this would be with Cryptocurrency.com. Cryptocurrency is the all-encompassing phrase to describe digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The domain Cryptocurrency.com is owned by attorney Jeffrey Berns who owns a portfolio of currency names including DigitalMoney.com, VirtualCurrency.com and BlockChains.com. As of writing, the domain forwards to ETHNews.com, a provider of Ethereum and Blockchain news.

According to DomainIQ, Jeffrey has owned Cryptocurrency.com since August 2014. Before that, the name looks to have been owned by the domain industry’s own Epik Inc.

Bitcoin.com

Bitcoin, the first decentralised cryptocurrency, was created in January 2009. Since then, the digital currency has risen in value to a high of just under $3,000 per Bitcoin earlier this year. There are some interesting media stories relating to Bitcoin in recent years, including British singer Lily Allen rejecting “hundreds of thousands” of Bitcoins to live stream a concert in online virtual world Second Life.

The Bitcoin.com domain was registered in 2008 and is currently owned by Roger Ver, a former politician that started to invest in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency related startups in 2011. The domain hosts a site that looks to be a comprehensive resource for those looking to buy Bitcoins. Unsurprisingly, the domain receives a high level of traffic, with a current US Alexa ranking of just under 4,000.

Ethereum.com

Ethereum is the latest cryptocurrency to make headlines across the World. This virtual currency had a value of around $8 per coin, which rose in value to around $380 per coin in June. That makes for a huge return on investment for those that bought and sold at the right time. However, it’s not just Ethereum owners who are looking to get rich. The owners of Ethereum.com are currently displaying a page that suggests the highest offer on the domain is currently $6.999 million.

With a creation date of March 2011, Ethereum.com predates the Ethereum cryptocurrency by several years, but the demand for Ethereum means that interest in the domain name is high. We have sent the owners of Ethereum.com a request for further information on the domain name. As of publishing, the request hasn’t been fulfilled.

Blockchain.com

In the most basic terms, a blockchain is a database comprising of cryptocurrency transaction records. The term has been around for a very long time, but thanks to Bitcoin, blockchain has taken on a new meaning that is almost synonymous with Bitcoin.

The domain resolves to the website of a company called Blockchain, who describe themselves as being at the forefront of the modernisation of the financial services industry. It’s likely that Blockchain acquired Blockchain.com in 2014.

Wallet.com

You may be surprised to see Wallet.com on this list. The traditional definition of a wallet would be somewhere to physically store money, but thanks to cryptocurrencies, the term has taken on a digital definition. A cryptocurrency wallet is a service that offers a secure digital wallet, allowing you to store, send and receive currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Based on our list so far, you’ll be forgiven for thinking that a cryptocurrency startup snapped up this name a couple of years ago. However, you’d be wrong. In fact, Google owns the domain name for its Google Wallet product. They have owned the name since 2011, when the company acquired the domain from World Media Group LLC.

I know DOT COM is king, however I believe domain investors in the crypto currency space should look to author cctld domain names such as India, with 1.5 billion people, or China with 1.7 billion people. Also China and India. ( among other countries ) are looking to incorporate cryptocurrency into their financial mainstream. Such as, but not limited to; Banks loans, Commerce, Etc. I feel there's there's a lot more to be said when it comes to cctld cryptocurrency domain names, and a lot of money still on the table. Also in these countries when it come to government is looking to incorporate the currencies into their mainstream.

'Blockchain' is the underlying technology on which Bitcoin, Ethereum, Lite Coin....and the other crypto coins are built. Crypto currency is just one of the several things that can be built using blockchain. For eg, a European country is using a blockchain-based land registry.

Blockchain is going to be big in the future. Already several global banks and financial institutions are investing a lot of money to build new products and services based on this technology. Do not focus too much on xxxcoins.

If the internet breaks down one time, then all digital currencies and also these domains are awayyy
It's more likely that banks will close and ATM's will be pluged off - as seen in Greece 2 years ago.

The internet will never go down - it's like the brain. If the time comes and it really goes down eventually then it will be doomsday. In this case your best friend could become Mad Max... hehe :xf.grin::xf.cool:

.com may be 'king' but don't forget, that .top = top.

Maybe it will not go down before doomsday, yes.
But I believe there are forces which are trying to bring it down.

Whatever coins are the main commercial application of the blockchain atm so domain wise there's nothing wrong focusing on "coin" domains atm IMO.

If you are betting against the internet, then why are you trying to pump that useless .top domain name? In fact, if you are so against crypto and the net, why are you even trying to sell domain names at all? You should be investing in a domain of a different kind, like land, so then you can feed your family when that day comes.

I grew up Amish, and I know farming, but I also know computers. We need to actually think about growing food too, especially if we think the tech side is doomed. But we should not stop investing in tech too. We need both.

I am not 'betting against the internet', I just consider it's end like I consider our own end.
What I mean, is, that I think, at one time everything will come to an end, you can call it 'doomsday'.

So why you think I am 'against crypto and the net'?
I didn't said that.

Also, why you think that my .top domain is 'useless'?
That's simply WRONG, because in fact it's 100 % in use as you can see it is the home of the highest website in the www.
If you don't understand that this domain's 'usage' is simply / just 'to exist to show it's untoppable status', then I really can't help.
But let me tell you that there are many artworks with very high prices and at the end you 'only' can watch them (to get some inspirations, impressions, thoughts, ...), in a musem for example.

It looks like that this domain is 'cryptic' for you.
Believe me, it has indeed a or more hidden message/s.
You can try to find out and if you will find something out, you are welcome to share what you have found out.

I am selling and trying to sell domain names - yes, although I am convinced the ineternet will have an end one day.
Like I am eating - although I am convinced I will die one day.
But of course I believe it still makes sense all.
Becasue I don't know much but I know that .top = top. and that's a big secret although it's obvious.

I don't need to invest in .land, I know why I am investing in .top
Becasue of the mentioned reason.

While we should life keep 'simple' (that's a relative term of course), it should be a composion of many things at the same time (at least if we want to 'grow').
The whole creation (nature, all living) is full of 'crypted messages' and if we 'follow' them (through science, studies, observations, mthematics, ...), we can learn from it to understand a little bit more what's going on and also to create fantastic items and goods through this knowledege.

The internet...
...in my eyes, it's the most amazing technical Invention in questions of 'modern' communication.

And 'domaining'...
...it's definitely a very risky thing but to create & sellie domains is the coolest thing I can imagine as work to raise money.

My goal in domaining is to land the absolute ultimate mega domain deal with my toptoptop... ...top.top domain - but in the meanwhile I am also focusing on other domains, maybe also on some 'crypto domains' - although I personally see this current crypto currency thing more as a hype.
As you may know, creating ('digging') bitcoins needs very strong servers which causes a lot of energyyy

My goal in life is to 'enter the center' (it's up to you how to understand this), with patience, every day a bit more, to 'get answers through every situation in every moment'.
At the end life is a big mystic ('crypto') but I always believe that there is a keyyy

But as long the internet exists, it's a big advantage if you can use it as medium to get your work done so that others can see / use / buy your work.
But, as you said, we (not 'the others' but we, you, I, everyone) also should know how to grow food, how to live with the nature, without the internet.
