-.kg , yes!: hyphen (dot) Kg - The shortest Domain in the World?

I have registered that domain after it was dropped about 1 month ago. Some Austrian Guy owned this domain for a couple years (from June 2001) and then he dropped it, I have found quite a bit of referrence (mostly in german) that this domain was active at some point and many called it the shortest domain in the world even the guiness book was mentioned in one article I read, lol maybe not the shortest domain in the world but a weird one for sure, and I am aware of one more domain of this type which is registerred in kazachstan since a long time: -.kz...

------------

Now, the problem part:

1. the domains nameserver are not resolving

I have my NS pointing to Noomle and got it in my control panel too but the site is not resolving, it works fine for another .kg domain I own so my guess is that a hyphen only domain can not be recognized but according to my research it must have worked at some point in the past.
Also I have contacted my registrar regarding this and they told me it will not work in most countries but in some (??) http://www.-.kg - Can you see something from your location?

2. hyphen only domains are not allowed

This is taken from the Regulations for Registration of a .KG Domain Name :
A domain name must consist of one and more than one symbols, begin and end with a letter of Roman alphabet or a digit. Letters, digits or a hyphen can be used as intermediate symbols.

But my .kg registrar in Kirgistan has told me that they allow me to keep the domain but if my attemps to develop fail, I have the option to ask for a refund, totally my choice...

-------------

Do you see any solution for my first problem? And if the problem can be solved somehow (obviously a domain that can not be developed is sort of worthless - maybe a collectors item at best) and I sell the domain in the future do you think the new owner is at a big risk of loosing that domain someday?

Thanks for reading this and any input!
Toni :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
wot i was once told that idn's bring out the crazies and going by the comments on the sales threads over there , it may have been a correct statement

I had my eye on this name aswell since I own around 7 or 8 one letter .kg names. Nice collectable though!

Well, it works on my end.

That domain looks so odd in the address bar.

Even better than that, http://-.kg without the www works too.

And what makes the domain more unique is it's *not* an IDN. It really is just -.kg

Not sure if the domain has any big value, but it's certainly a neat novelty to have. Speaking of novelty, don't park it. Put something on it, even if it's just a place-holder page displaying nothing more than a large hyphen.

thanks for your comments guys!

@bill: The bad request will be worldwide now.. I was trying a few other things but I didn't get it to work, so I will be uploading a small piece of html next week or so..

@mike: thanks for the blog post :D, however you seem quite slow in approving comments, have left a longer reply to that blog post about 10 days ago, and it's not yet published ;)

@ezdomains: yeah you're right, each time I see the domain now, it smiles at me upside down :D

@ric: it's funny that you say that, guess you've partially discovered my secret plan for it, hehe... anyhow I am currently focusing full time on developing my real killer .kg hack...

btw -.kg is now for sale or trade, I'll get the buyer in touch with my friend so you can have your site displayed on it to let the world know you own one of the weirdest collectibles in the domaining world LMAO :D

In what way is -.kg shorter than domains such as k.st, w.pl, u.tv, etc who have been existing AND being used for many years? A hyphen equals an alphanumerical character, both in the cases of -.kg and for example u.tv there is 1 character before the dot, followed by the two-digit country extention. So a joint record yes, but the record can be equalled in any ccTLD that allows domains of 1 character.

Gerrit, that is what I wrote in Mike's Blog post 10 days ago for clarification, which has yet to be approved, I never said it is the shorter then 1 digit or 1 letter domains :)...

also there are about 20 www(dot)ext, like www(dot)kg type of domains roaming the net, these are shorter IMO ;)

hehe, quite sensitive spam filter you got Mike, thanks for approving it :)...

I guess posting a link in a comment already triggers the spambox..

probably you are missing out on many valuable comments (not mine :D) in your blog where domainers try to make a point linking to a website..
