Hello, I think it would be pretty useful to keep track of all LLLL.com sales , even the little ones under $100 so that , pretty soon , when the available LLLL.com will be finished , we`ll have a better idea on market prices.

It is important that these sales are confirmed. So before to post, make sure payment went OK.

I will start with todays` Sedo confirmed sales:

FISE.com 2,700 Euros
TSRT.com US $760
VEUP.com US $1,700

Also, I found interesting to see this average LLLL, getting bids up to $51 and reserve not me. It says it all.

Quality is everything

Slobizman,

really that is a very good anology and of course those who are caught up in this buying frenzy will not see it.

I am a professional greenhouse grower and have owned garden centers and greenhouses for over 35 years. I know the tulip story very well. I thought about posting it before you did, but I thought I would only end up with doubt like you did here.

Oh well its all up to the individual and in the end we will see won't we?

I have seen many bubbles in the plant business, one was in the tropical house plant craze of the early seventies. Hardly any greenhouses grew them but all of a sudden consumers wanted house plants. Since that is all I grew my business exploded and I became a pretty large wholesaler overnight. That lasted about three or four years. Other greenhouses got on the bandwagon all of a sudden tropical plants flooded the market.

Only difference I suppose with the domain LLLL and plants is " we can't make anymore LLLL.

The exception to that reasoning folks is the underlining value of domains. What makes a name valuble? The same as a plant boom.... customer demand!

When its all said and done and domainers push LLLL thru the roof for flipping, who will buy these names?.

I have said it before, what makes a name valuble is only one thing.. the end user, ( traffic is too). Ask yourself before you buy a LLLL that is not prouncable or is not a acroynm for a large segment of industry, what market does this name represent.

If it has a very small footprint, the name will plumment in value.

Real estate can be looked at in the same light. Many can say, well they only have so many houses so they will continue to go up like they have in the last few years, lol. The real estate bubble has burst. Many banks will go into foreclose as they over loaned. Market analyists are saying we have a glut of new homes and as the economy is crashing because of over building and bank foreclosures from lending into this market that house values will plumment up to 50%!

Another thing to think about the world economy is taking a big hit. As the dominos effect percolates thru the world money will be more difficult to make. Those who bought up names like xquz will wonder why the hell they ever paid more than $15.00 for them.

Doesn't matter if they make no more LLLL, only the LLLL that have a strong market represented or if they stand for some big business or if they are prouncable will grow in value. All the others will not be a asset to own.

What I m saying is quality is everything.

Great points in your post. But those who have not been around the block like us won't understand until the time comes that they are the last ones holding something only speculators are buying.

As for your comments on the RE market quoted above:

I made a sh*t load of money shorting the homebuilders last year, when all the analysts and my brokers said I this was a crazy thing to do. Yeah, right. Then I shorted consumer discretionary and did it again. I wish I could short crap LLLL.com names, or as you guys call them, non-premium. I would only be long, very long high quality LLL.com names, very long. There is a huge difference.

As you say, quality makes a difference.

slobizman and goodkarmaco i wont quote your posts here cause it would make mine a very big one

i really understand your points and it is very good some people with different POVs here as we can read yours and discuss about them... thank you

actually waht happened regarding the tulips in the netherlands in the 17th century was already posted here in NP (i am sure cause i read and found it vey interesting) and it made me think these things happen a long time since we have businesses (maybe others happened before and we dont know)

what i want to say is that isnt just about end-users LLLL.com are made of; there are other things you didnt write such as

- they are dot com and dot com are dot com (we have seen this since domaining is domaining) or am i wrong?
- they are short names and you know acronyms have a great potential and believe me, who is saying this to you is a person from a country (brazil) where acronyms are not so common as in many other countries (maybe a cultural thing)
- as Lorenzo (italiandragon) said there are data showing the internet penetration is just 18% worldwide... we still have 82% to reach the entire world but as the entire world will take a long time to be reached we have 32% left to reach half people in the world (if we assume we are 6,5 billion people today the internet is used by 1,170 billion people and it will go to 3,25 billion people D-: )
- LLLL and LLL are similar (LLL has scarcity in its side much more than LLLL) but both are finite and domaining as discussed before has something to do with real estate (at least as far as i have read)
- almost everybody is going for LLLL.com and i think (my sig though  as it is a message regarding elections) almost everybody cant be wrong and all this people would not spend their money in a very dangerous niche if they think it would not be a good one

thanks again for your great posts... i think these kind of posts are great and make us discuss and show all our POVs
keep the mcoming :tu:

Bricio,

well, you have good points about the value of acronyms. I fully agree. If the acroynm supports a big market, then in my book the LLLL is worth more.

Lets say two names are up for sale, one a acronym for a big segment of industry. The other, just a mumble of letters. The LLLL for a big segment of a industry has a bigger resale future.

When domainers buy up all the LLLL they can afford for resale, prices will drop. In the long run, the names that are prouncable and or represent a market will carry a higher premium.

If its a .com, its not always a money maker. I have lots of .coms that are duds.
