.ES Restrictions are lifted!

With the lifting of .es restrictions on November 8, there could be a nice little mini rush for .es domains. As of that date, .ES domains will be available to register by anyone, for any purpose.

According to the story on dnjournal, and subsequent comments, there are still plenty of keywords available...

With the coupon code at eurodns, it brings the price of .es domains down to 14.40 euros.

Here are some quick factoids on .es and spanish internet trends..

Internet Usage Statistics:
16,129,731 Internet users as of Sept/2005, 37.1% of the population, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.

Latest Population Estimate:
43,435,136 population for 2005, according to world-gazetteer.

Any of you guys gonna register some .es goodness? :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have 5 of 11 through EuroDNS. It seems the real big keywords are still undecided. I still have hope(crosses fingers)

i did the same, and when i checked nic.es at that time, there was no people on the list to get them, so i imagine i was the first,
keep my fingers crossed

I'm waiting to resolve about 40 domains. I think NIC.ES froze the queue forpremium domains and is trying to determine the winner by RANDOM function :)

Some of mine are resolving fine with eurodns but some are not. The newer ones 48hrs+ are not, so i guess its a patience game until they sort it out.

I don't know if to cry or laugh. DD24 totally screwed up the Spanish landrush. Out of my two quite likely to catch pre-registrations (neither is a dictionary domain), neither go registered. Instead I just received a message that both failed and the money has been placed in my account for further orders. Just about what I didn't want to happen. :(

Looks like I won't be doing DD24 for any future pre-orders.

I just checked and can see that i have still one domain name starts with a V. When I check the domain name starting with a V in eurodns (where i registered the name ) it show that it is still FREE and in nic.es is also not taken. What do you think about this is there still a delay for domain names starting from the letter N to Z ?? This is very strange.

Thanks

gasoline.es,fruit.es,lease.es,bnp.es

what do you think of this domains?

Those are all english words, worth NOTHING in the .es extension considering spain is SPANISH! However lease.es may be good just for development, well they all could be good just for development, but for resell value not very high. good luck! :tu:

Should put those in the appraisal section :tu:

Thats like saying money.de is worthless because its not in german.

Most people have no idea what the 2-3 letters after the dot means. 99% of websurfers arent going to go "OH, HEAVENS! That's a german site about money. They must have just used the english word accidentally! I better go look for a .us extension!"

The only thing you lose with a non .com extension is type-in traffic. Search engines dont localize results according to ccTLD's.

They are doing so more now, especially if you use google.de or google.es for example.

Ok no-one's accusing me of being anglocentric this time!
I just got it.com.es & it can be used the same through most of europe.
es: información tecnología
fr: information technologie
it: informazione tecnologia
de: informationstechnologie
pt: informação tecnologia

Of course the real reason I got it was so I could make silly subdomains like:
here.it.com.es

Don't really agree with you on that point, they won't worth "nothing". English names are usually shorter and easy to remember and therefore very brandable.

BNP is a famous French Bank :)

I wasn't saying Bank.es, Casino.es, Poker.es, Business.es, and Sex.es arn't valuable.. I'm just saying .es is for spain.. and in that case "Sexo.es" would be the more appropriate for the country (Thats if you were targetting the country).

If your just out for a good keyword, go for it, use it for your business. Good Luck! :tu:

I guess mine are working.
Starting on the 11th I've had 22 spams & a misspelt address from one .es domain! :-P

Can I use this as an indication of how valuable my domain is?!

Some of mine are showing "sunrise" and are not assigned to me yet. How come?
Is there a sunrise for .es also?
