For those who already know about this I apologise. For those who don't maybe you'd be interested.

On 17th June 2005 the final bid for ywh.com was $2,900 and yet it went for
only $875 to bean. I don't know where they get the $875 figure because bean didn't put in a bid for this amount.

im not sure how snapnames works, but if its like ebay, the $875 bid is because everyone higher then jumptime1, except beans, cancelled their bid

Nope it is snapnames up to there tricks as usual. There used to be a group of phantom buyers i have had 3 offers to buy on a bid i made after the bid went crazy and the bidders pulled out.

I do not use them anymore. I prefer pool but who knows the same could happen there also.

Seems like bid inflation, because it would seem almost illogical that YWH would go for more than $2k...

Although, $875 is below the recent data that I've seen, it doesn't make me feel any better about the aftermarkets.

SnapNames Inc. does not participate in the auctions that we run. To do so would be both very illegal and wildly unethical. Further, we have a strict, well policed policy against SnapNames employees or agents of employees bidding in auctions we facilitate. It does not happen.

Shill bidding is an issue we are well aware of. Without elaborating, I will say that we watch for shills, fraudulent bidders, and other bad actors and thwart them on a regular basis, and that we work harder than anyone else in this business to run clean, transparent auctions.

I'm sure that no one here meant to claim that SnapNames is intentionally complicit in any wrong-doing, or to accuse SnapNames (and by extension, me personally) of any crime or ethical lapse. We've apparently made a mistake or two recently when determining how to best close an auction when payment is suspect, but any mistakes made were made in good faith. Our bad. We'll try to do better next time, that's the most I can promise.

People tend to associate with the evidence rather than just a simple messaged dropped in by your "friendly support rep". That auction seemed very shady to me and you should fix the flaws in your system before reporting back about your work to stop it. Undoubtebly these auctions are still going on, still getting overinflated and it is snapnames that are reaping in the money - you have a pretty good reason to lie right there.

Snapnames have way to much to risk by doing this even though it really does come across like they are the ones doing it. I think there are scammers out there who are out to ruin everything in the domain community. Look at the hacker who attacked dnjournal and the forums.

I am sure the phantom bidders who have no intention of paying at snapnames who bidded on the above auction and many others are scammers too, having a laugh by making us the end user pay over the top prices for a domain.

This does annoy me though in a big way because yes your right as someone else posted why would snapnames rock the boat because by not rocking it they get a better payday when a domain sells high. I personally hope they catch these people or instant ban if payment has not been made after 30 days without any contact from them.

Just my thoughts on this.
