I'd have to agree with you there. With a budget that low, you'll mostly only find unreliable, fly-by-night hosts that will run with your money in a month or two.

*Ahem* If you provide no support tickets and thus no time, 1GB diskspace/10GB bandwith for $0.83/month is technically profitable and especially for bigger servers.

Plus the fact it must be paid per year ($10 whole instead of $2.50/month like you) makes it usually even less desirable for Terms of Service abuser, even with the low price.

It's a working plan when you think about it. Most people just use the script installer to put up a blog usually.

Someone that knows they are going to abuse their account (spamming, etc.) is going to look for the lowest price they can. So when their account is suspended/terminated, they lose less money.

Also, the only way to make a profit only charging $10 a year would be if you have a reseller account that you are only paying $25 a month for, a cheap VPS or severely overselling a dedicated server.

So you're telling me your $5.49/month ($65.88/year) works without overselling but not mine?

It's not really bringing a good profit/client and it's not worthwhile to advertise. But resources wise, it works.

Clients can upgrade their account at a later date when their needs raise. It's good to attract clients.

Just think about it a bit. It's something I'd recommend. I've seen very successful hosts offer even more resources and one even unmetered for FREE to attract clients which later converted to paid. They have a few hours of downtime per month. It isn't incredibly reliable but it was ok. But it enticed people to switch to paid after some time. They've been around for 6 years now.

My low resources (1GB space / 10GB transfer) at $10/year works out just great and I can manage to keep it reliable unlike free accounts.
