Always thought the dude was weird but damn...wouldn't have guessed that about the shill bidding. Too bad...he may have gained somewhat in money from the shill bidding, but money can't buy or replace reputation. Maybe he'll figure that out.

Indeed, and risking your whole business for a few dollars is pathetic..

I've written out ten things an deleted them all...I am truly speechless.

Thank you NP staff for being on the ball and not holding anyone above the bylaw! That shows true board integrity when it's mgmt is willing to toss out one of the most senior of members because of wrongdoing.

Thank you, Mark and thank you tetrapak for bringing this to the light of everyone. NamePros is #1 for a reason!

Time to set a filter that not allow 2 accout with the same IP address. Honestly, I did sometime in the old day in ebay (2 years ago).

Problem with that is "If I'm not mistaken?"

Cant someone change their ip address right on their computer somehow?

If you don't have statics IP, you can change by renew it or disconnect and reconnect. However, it will take time.
At this moment, many of us, who has good connection, has statics IP address.

I see three problems with such a filter. :(

1. What if the connection, and thus IP address is shared amongst many people (Home and office, Wi-Fi hotspots, library, or Internet cafe)? This is more common than you think.

2. It is also very easy to renew your IP address, EVEN if you have a static IP. It can be done at the command prompt (the command is ipconfig/renew for Windows machines), or in your router's control panel.

3. Determined shill bidders, scammers, or otherwise indecent people will go to far lengths to bypass this. They can simply renew their IP address (as above), or use a web/web-based proxy.

Good idea, but :imho: these downsides make it unfeasible. :hehe:

Yeah, many other problems! I am sure that if your IP is statics, you can not change if you don't contact ISP. Well, people can use many other way to have new IP (proxy, for example). And I am sure also they are good enough to play around...

However, any solution is for limitting as much as possible, none of them will be perfect.

Also, it is not so difficult for an administrator to tell who have 2 or more accounts

I have a static IP and I change it from time to time (for testing purposes, etc.). You don't need to contact your ISP, I am sure. It's only a matter of a simple command line operation, or a few clicks in your router.

Try it! If you are connected to the Internet directly, open the Command Prompt in Windows.

Type in this command exactly and press Enter.

Code:
ipconfig /renew

If you are connected through a router, it's usually a simple matter to click "Release IP" then "Renew IP" in the admin panel to change your public IP address.

:hehe:

That means you don't have statics IP address. Statics IP is provided to your adapter by ISP (Based on MAC address).

OR you just browse to a proxy website.

Good catch mark, ashamed that someone of such a reputation would play with it like that.

Sooner than later, Mark most usually catches people who try to scam, open duplicate accounts, consistantly break forum rules, Nice job Mark, Although he was a four year member, This shows that, NO one is exempt from getting banned from NamePros, Should they try and test the admins intelligence.
