I run windows home server already on my desktop. I find it to be very stable. It is based on Windows Server 2003 Small Business. The OS cannot be purchased in a normal retail store like BestBuy. It was meant to be preinstalled on some HP systems and some other authorized providers. But if you like the OS, you can still buy it as OEM which is what I did. They have it available at TigerDirect.
