Can anyone confirm the dates that the domain extensions that are the big players in the domain industry (at this current moment in time) began, when they were first released to the general public?

Well I had to do some small research but I think these are the right
dates:

.biz - Top-Level Domain 26-June-2001
.com - Top-Level Domain 01-January-1985
.info - Top-Level Domain 26-June-2001
.name - Top-Level Domain 17-August-2001
.net - Top-Level Domain 01-January-1985
.org - Top-Level Domain 01-January-1985
.pro - Top Level Domain 27-May-2004

Here's a list of the extensions in order of date:

.COM - 01 January 1985
.NET - 01 January 1985
.ORG - 01 January 1985
.INFO - 26 June 2001
.BIZ - 26 June 2001
.NAME - 17 August 2001
.US - 24 April 2002
.PRO - 27 May 2004

I would say that the popularity of the domain extensions reflects their age. It would be interesting to know when each of th domain extensions have really started hitting the big bucks relative to their ages.
