Hello guys,

What online line of business is more profitable?

I didn't know what to put as poll options, please post what markets you think are the most profitable.

Thanks,
-Ryan

The one that you can sink your heart, effort and dedication into. Can't pick one or another off your list, because a business in itself is not 'profitable' -- it's how you can personally relate to the business. If it's something you truly love, profit is more likely to come. What's profitable for one may not be profitable for another. Yeah, these are all generalities, but unless your question is more specific, that's the only kind of answer I can give. Selling posters is highly profitable for some. Selling web hosting is highly profitable for others. Selling specialty items is profitable for some. Being an affiliate for many sources is profitable for others. There are thousands of different types of businesses that are highly profitable -- but even the one on the top of the list won't be profitable for YOU unless your heart is in it. My two cents :)

I greatly appreicate your thoughts, but I'd rather make several profitable websites then do what I love to do instead of dedicating my time to work. So when deciding whats my next website, I look at the money side rather than how I relate to it. Becase if there is a market with alot of money in it, thats what i like is the challenge to make it a profitable for me also.

Thanks,

anyone else?

I concur with your thoughts Gene, but I guess what DJ-Sound wants to know here is statistically which one of those are proven to be more profitable.

If you want to make a profitable site, make one you are interested in. That way you can share your knowledge and experiene with others. Or maybe they can teach you a few things. Offer the knowledge you have, its the best way to success in this vast online world. Nobody can take your thoughts and ideas. They especially can't take your experience and knowledge from that area. Once someone stumbles upon your site and looks into it and says " Hey this guy knows that he is doing." They will surely come back. Just do what comes natural to you and what is the most fun. Then you will start making the money you want.

It's funny how so many people are under the illusion that Hosting is profitable....

If you have the right prices, yes, it can be a profitable business :)

Agree lol, I would never venture into the Hosting industry, too much/many hassles to be bothered...

I voted for affiliated sites simply cause that is where I've made the most income in the past.

What do you class as the right price?

To compete we're looking at $5 for 50GB b/w (at least). At those sort of prices you need to fill a whole server just to break even! 20 Clients to make a profit, no thanks.

You would be much, much better getting 20 B2B clients (about the same effort) paying several hundred $ each for your services.

Thanks for your replys!

The only way I've done hosting in the past is seek offline customers/companies so I can charge whatever I want. But you right there is really no way to compete online with the prices that the big companies charge.

Anyone else?

I would have to say web hosting for a number of reasons.

1) The number of websites and domains being developed is rising like crazy and with that the web hosting is also expanding.

2) The amount of different varities and customization that you can get is astronomical.

3) The cost of a service can vary drastically and you can make a huge profit off of something that might be incredibly hard for someone but really easy for you.

Not everyone oversells you know.. you don't need to oversell just to make a profit. Many webhosting customers are more into the quality of service rather than the price. You can't assume that everyone in the webhosting industry oversells their space/bandwidth because that's not true :) Some people do, some people don't.

You are totally right Veolus because the companies that stay true and don't oversell are the ones that make it. Also, there are so many new tricks that are coming out now that you have to watch out for that some hosts are trying to use.

Yep :D Alot of webhosts will do anything just to make a dollar or two even if it involves using sneaky tactics :D

Well I think it really depends on how much work you put into it, as any of these can be very profitable, but I would have to go with Ecommerce Stores if I had to choose one.

Yeah and unfortunely most people do not what to look for and they just want to get the cheapest thing out there and it has to be the best. The truth is that you get what you pay for and it is so funny to see that people actually think they can get an unlimited amount of space for $20 a year.

It's typical for a lot of people to do that and their usually the ones that end up crying when everything doesn't seem to be going well with their new webhost.
