And "in the ebay" they list them at 100's of thousands, but it dosent change the fact that its worth not much, if anything.

I am somewhat surprised at the google results for the term, so your best bet would be hope a company wants it as a website, other than that, i have not a clue how you would make money out of this domain.

Qwest is rolling out fiber right now, so is verizon and probably others. Ever heard of fiber to the home? FTTH? Verizon FIOS?

There is also a company called USFiber that does textiles, been in business since 1974. I'm sure they wouldn't mind owning the .com.

Sorry still no value IMO, you will find companies like verizon will have domain names registered ages ago for this kind of technology. I would put up a minisite and see how it goes. FTTH and FIOS have been discussed for while now.......

I am aware of it's use/s, but the fact remains, are you going to start a site selling US optic fibre?

I think not.

You are limited to selling the domain to a US optic fibre company, in which case the domain is worth nothing until you do, which as you point out COULD be in the low xxx range, if you managed that.

A speculative domain at a bare minimum, which is what the ones on eBay and Sedo with fantastic prices are.

You're saying it has value because there's a company called USFiber thats been around for decades, well then it is just cybersquatting and will have TM issues which could get him in hot water. Anything could sell to the right buyer, or someone whos delusional with a credit card, doesnt mean making a huge collection of longshot domains is a good idea.

US Fiber is generic enough, it doesn't mean he's cybersquatting. And yes, I see value there. I bet he could get 100 bucks for it at least. Fiber optics are just now starting to get big, not a lot of people even have that option yet. I just got FTTH and a lot of people are stuck with dsl and even dialup.

maxeaus: Do you really expect some kid to start selling fiber optic service? Do people with casino domains always start casinos? :lol: I could see this as a US FTTH/FIOS review site, listings of new areas FIOS is coming to, coverage maps, dates of new fiber optic rollouts. I'm sure someone else could think of a different use for it.
