Note: I posted this last night on the Webhosting Topics board, and am reposting here in hopes of getting a quicker answer. The potential customer is chomping at the bit.

A friend of my cousin needs some webspace and has asked me to accomodate him. Although I have an eNom resellers acct and use ResellerZoom for server space, providing hosting for someone else is a new experience.

The site is very off the wall- for example, it has been referenced and gets visited by the Howard Stern Show.
It receives approx 100 visits/da. It is offline ATM, and I vaguely remember that the reason for this is that the webmaster had a goin w/ the host because the servers went down a few times for extended periods and ultimately, the host totally flaked.

He says he needs 10 Gigs of space and a monthly bandwidth allowancece of 100 Gig. (His site has an abundant amt of graphics, unusual videos etc. and as I understand it, he's got some expansion plans.)

I'll be visiting here w/ more questions, but for starters:
- How much should I be charging? Going rate? Friendly rate?
- Do I set up a package and than an account for the domain the same as I do for my own sites or is a subaccount involved? I use cPanel.

Thanks.

Oh well. I'll take a piece of my own advice and go a Googlin.

I pay $35/mo for a resellers account (currently hosting about 40 domains) -- 2 gig space & 20 gig bandwidth. The servers are high end duel zeon with proactive maintenance. Alberta stats for my server is 2005 = 99.962%, so far this year 99.979% last 3 months --
2006 April 0 0 hrs, 0 mins, 0 secs 100.000%
2006 March 1 0 hrs, 28 mins, 59 secs 99.925%
2006 February 0 0 hrs, 0 mins, 0 secs 100.000%.

Has been well over a year since I had a support issue.

I am a great believer in 'best bang for the buck' so that kind of resources on top hardware (proactively managed) and not oversold should run in the $75-$100 range. Might give serious to his own (maintained) or a VPS.

Example offering last year -- they run 8 vps accounts per server.
VPS Package 1

20GB Storage
512Mbyte RAM Guaranteed
200GB Bandwidth
Equal share CPU
8 IPs
cPanel/rvskin/Fantastico
Fully Managed
$149 - Currently $125

I know that there are services offering for much less but that may be the reason for the present problem.

Hope this helps.

If your hosting is good, and you rarely receive any downtime, I would charge at least $20/mo INCLUDING the friendship deal. If you noticed downtime with your hosting, you should probably sell it to him for maybe $15/mo.
