I'm a big fan of visual basic and i was even surprised at how quickly i took to it, knowing delphi before hand did help though as the two languages are rather similar.

I found delphi to be rather confusing though and pretty fiddly at times but Visual Basic is so much easier and less hastle and would highly recomend it to anyone looking to get into software programming, personally id go for one of the Visual Basic Express Editions as its perfect for newcomers to the programming world.

I find doing Visual Basic rather fun as the ideas you can come up with are endless and you can implement them with considerable ease.

Anyone else in here VB Fans?

I'v used it.

Found it rather easy.
The only annoying thing is, the client that uses your App', must have the .NET Framework installed.

They don't need the Framework with "C++", not "Visual C++" by the way.

Maybe VB would be good for getting a draft version of the app done and then convert it over to C++ when you got all the layout sorted? I want to get into coding apps so i can combine them with my web stuff.

Is there a converter? Or do you do it manually? :)

Manually :) But using VB for making prototypes would be more efficient than making it from scratch in C

Well, I'm doing a course on VB.NET at my school, and personally I really don't like it. I can do tons more with even PHP (is web-based, but whatever).

VB is a great language to get a desktop application done is a short amount of time. Comparing VB to PHP is like comparing sapples to oranges. They both have their purposes, and the purposes are definitely DIFFERENT.

VB can be limiting in what it can do, but if you want a simple GUI application, that can read and write data to text files or even interface with Foxpro or some other back-end database, it is GREAT!

Personally I prefere VB6, i'm not a fan of the .NET version.

Just out of interest, if you prefer the .NET version, why do you? What extra features does it have?

Just stick it anywhere, generally, I put functions in a module.

Hi i agree about the .NET Framework bit having to be installed before any app can be built.

Like i said VB is a good first stepping stone for programming, not everyones cuppa tea tho.
