Hello,

I know someone who has Vbulletin 3.7.4 and wants to sell it for $100.

He will provide me with proof of ownership etc.

Is that a good deal?

Does a serious forum based website need Vbulletin or should I just use one of the free ones?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can only transfer a license if it is

- Owned License
- Has to be an active license. The support can't have expired.
- Has to be older than 60 days.

If it comes with 6+ months support than it is a good deal for $100.

Depend - I would say that it's more dependable from you, your needs, etc... There's no rule what software should "serious forum based website" use as board.
As example, phpbb team came out with extremely powerful and free phpbb3. It's big move from version2 and worth to check it. There's amazing active community behind phpbb and most likely more candies (modules/extensions) than any other pro board have.

If you're not sure what you need yet, try not to spend whole fortune for something what you maybe don't even need.

That makes good sense to me.

I think that I will stick to the free one.
