Please make sure to read up on 1&1 internet. Many people have had problems with them in the past.

Do Not Even Think About

Google search on 1and1
First non 1and1-owned link is:
1and1 Sucks: 1&1 Will Rip You Off

http://www.1and1sucks.info/
Here is my personal battle with 1and1, which started in 2004- 2005

I lost:
  • Money they charged on my card to renew domains, which i tried to cancel
  • Domains which i wanted to keep (by blocking my access to their settings)
  • Hostingcompared.com website, which was generating decent income back in 2005 and was #2 in Google. My custom side-by-side comparison website was deleted (my backup was also there, so when they blocked my access i could do nothing). I managed to transfer the domain 1.5 y later)
I have collection agency after me and it affected my credit history. 1and1 endangered my life (well, not really, but who knows) just because i chose 1and1 as my domain registrar.

The problem was that they require cancelation of the domain, which should normally expire (Subsection3.7.4 of ICANN's Registrar Accreditation Agreement). Until the end 2005-early 2006 the ONLY way to cancel domain with 1and1 was through the fax (1 form for 1 domain). I didn't have a fax machine (or printer), and didn't want to bend over for 1and1: i entered the contract online, there was no indication that i need to have access to fax machine in order to get out of the contract (cancelation by phone wasn't allowed). 1and1 doesn't allow removing credit card # from user's profile. Cancellation of credit card doesn't work: 1and1 opens you a "credit line": it you won't pay it back , they will sell it to collection agency.

My only "achievement" so far was that 1and1 introduced domain cancelation online, but still - you have to go and manually cancel.

TIP: if you must use 1and1, go and purchase one of those pre-paid ATMs and use fake name/address

Note:
.US TLD Registrar Neustar Corp. is dirty company as well. I won't provide more information for now, but could friendly recommend you to
STAY AWAY, unless you have something 'personal' against 1and1/Neustar com. You will also need some time, patience and about $127.99, which you have a chance to turn into up to $7500 (in California).
$127.99= $2.99 + $75 (small case court filing) + $50 (to me for info)

(if you think that i am fighting against corporate fraud only to "fraud" you for $50, think again)

Yep, don't be lured into the cheap pricing. You get what you pay for...

And what you pay for is the barebones take you out back and slap the crap outta you till you wanna commit suicide... 1and1 is the worst internet providers on the net.
