Unnecessary Interior 301 Page Redirects?

Since the Group was so responsive with my other question, I thought I'd try my luck with this.

I'm still pretty new (I guess that is pretty obvious...)

I just launched let's say ZooomvilleWeddingLocations.c and I had it originally separated into divisions of North Zooomville Wedding Locations and South Zooomville Wedding Locations.

Then...I decided to change the title of North Zooomville... to Northern Zooomville, and South Zooomville to Southern Zoomville...

I made a 301 redirect for both the North and South pages (which were probably too new at the time to have been visited by any spides, but...) so that anyone/thing which happened by would be sent to the new Northern and Southern titled pages.

Were the 301 redirects overkill or just flat out unnecessary? Should I just get rid of them?

Thanks to all in advance.
