First off, this story involves a forum...but before you suspect anything it's certainly not about Namepros or any forum directly related to the industry.

There's a certain forum that I've posted at for a while now. It has a pretty decent reputation but it has changed hands over the years and has come under control of a newer party.

Well, it's a commonly known fact in this industry that people like to offer various products and services that simply don't exist in today's world. It has been the policy of this forum in the past that such offers were not allowed period - especially in the section where such offers can easily be made.

Well, this rule still exists to this day, but upon visiting the site I noticed a rather large banner at the top of the site advertising exactly this. Today I noticed yet another banner doing the same thing. I made a reasonable posting inquiring about the double standard to which mods on the forum responded with the usual vague messages that you would expect from those who don't actually own the forum. The entity that owns the forum never responded.

However, my post was closed and my last reply removed where I simply stated that money seems to change things. Now, I don't question the locking and removal of my post - there's nothing to do about that but this really bothers me that when it comes to money that this forum would do this. I think it says a lot about the character, or lack thereof, of the people who run the show.

Wouldn't you feel the same way?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I surely would,And i watch ethics very closely when being a member or purchasing anything from a site,I feel you have every reason to question the ethics of the above.

This is not shocking considering the company your reffering to is all about the $$$. All the sites they've bought they've turned into cash paying sites where you MUST pay them to view the stuff on the sites, which was previously free. I would not be shocked if the forum your reffering to eventually becomes a paid membership only.

The same forum also has a big old boys club and I see them same ones treating newer people horrible every day. I've been around the forum long enough to be part of that ol' boys club but have no interest in doing so.

While I understand some sites can certainly charge for viewing their things however I think its horrible to turn a free sites into a ads packed site, let alone a membership based one.

And this is one reason why another web hosting forum would do good.

I think it is unethical.
But, as we have seen, ethics can be bought off.

It seems any posts that point out the fact that this company's ethics are for sale get deleted and the thread is sanitized and closed.

I guess it's more juvenile and pathetic than anything.
Seems like a serious inferiority complex.

As for there being other options, all I can say is:

It's unfortunate but things like this happen more often then not, especially when money comes into play...

I'd suggest you start looking around for a similar site where ethics/principles are still intact.
