Today's ICDR decision (which I believe was wrong), is a kiss of death for .TV...It is going to be way toooooo
confusing.

ICDR expert Stephen Strick delivered a brief, five-page ruling in the case of Verisign vs. T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons yesterday, ruling that .tvs is not confusingly similar to .tv.

Not a kiss of death to .tv at all. Why? For one simple reason. .tv > .tvs by a long way.

.TVS makes no sense...

When people talk about television, they go by TV not TVS.

The reality about .tv is that users like NBC, MLB, etc. are branding in a third-world country's ccTLD instead of their own country's ccTLD (.us). Eventually they should become embarassed by that fact and stop branding in the ccTLD for Tuvalu.

Agree with HeyNow.

.us could be branded as U See (almost TV)

Well, mjnels may be right, it isn't likely to happen now, but time lapse makes it an almost certainty, IMHO. Especially if Tuvalu becomes known for something egregious instead of merely basket-weaving and sand-sifting. It's a third-world country, so anything's possible.

anythings possible.. but are non-commercial organizations operating on a .com going to suddenly wake up and be embarrassed one day because they realize it means commercial..... maybe.. but probably not.

You make a good point, but of course non-commercial entities operating on a .com are not branding in a third-world's ccTLD.
Big difference there. .COM has big time credibility built on a foundation provided by a first-world country, not some banana republic like Tuvalu.

Dot-tv was never conceived for "television," but rather was awarded to the country of Tuvalu for their unique ccTLD. It was bastardized into "television" by marketers ( I believe IdeaLab) leased the rights from Tuvalu. That's another issue, the rights to .TV were merely leased to the current registry, not sold outright.

Let's talk about this again a few years down the road.
