What's the scoop with trademark issues and typos?

For example let's say coke creates a domain like cokeillustrate.com

Are there issues if I register cokeilustrate.com or cokeillistrate.com ?

Yes.

Yes, because Coke is still a trademark. You get into a grey area if you use ckoe (a mis-spelling of the brand name), but you still probably would be on the losing end of any lawsuit.

The only time you are almost guaranteed safe is when you buy a typo of a generic word, assuming of course that the generic word does not hold a TM like "AMAZON"
