Looking for some help on TPL and Includes files. How can I add a space for HTML between the Header and content files with these files?

you can edit your .tpl files using notepad or any editing software like dreamweaver. :)

As eli03 stated you can edit them using any text editor. We cannot however tell you which file to edit as we have no idea of what script you are using so haver no idea of the layout and coding of the software. However you may be able to edit header.tpl (most software will call it this).

Thank you. I have learned that it IS HTML, just a file type that opens in Dreamweaver. Since I do not have dreamweaver, once I open and edit it, can I just resave as an HTML file? or will that mess up the site?

no you will need to keep it with the same name otherwise the script will not be able to find it

.tpl is not just a dreamweaver extension, many people use it for templates when not using dreamweaver...

Actually TPl files are written in Smarty scripting languages. It is very useful when we have the combination of server side scripting to sort out the design issues.

Sorry but tpl files are not directly for smarty, many programs and applications have used them before smarty was around. The tpl file is not specifically for smarty. I have seen a lot of forum software use it and they don't use smarty.

as liam says tpl have nothing to do with smarty, smarty just so happens uses them as well. tpl as it's name suggests stands for template so is an obvious extension that was adopted. I personally use the template_it pear package which also happens to use tpl files by default.
