Apparently there is footage from the opening of a 1928 Charlie Chaplin film that shows an older lady perhaps talking on a device. Its pretty freaky.

It's probably an early Hearing aid.

It looks like there is a small antenna, but that device would be way to small for an early walkie talkie.
