Whilst the GoDaddy decision was very controversial, wouldn't you be thanking them for taking prompt action if your personal details had been on that site?

Whilst I am not necessarily in agreement with the way this was handled, there are two sides to every argument.

Seclists.org has been a heavily used and widely respected full-disclosure security list for many years now. I remember using it during 2001 while studying for the CISSP (security) exam. Fyodor is also the author of Nmap, an extremely popular port scanning tool. GD has a PR nightmare on their hands and, not that I would condone it, but many users of seclists/nmap are considered "black hat" security experts (or 'hackers'). If GD get nasty about this, they may also have a security nightmare on their hands.

In my opinion...

These details are all over the internet, i don't see any credit due to Godaddy.
Myspace is also lacking in appropriate and effective response.

These lists where online before it even was to be found on the site in question which was closed down by Godaddy.
Did Godaddy prevent anything?

Nope! The password list is still available for download all over the place.

A few hours later or days later wouldn't make any difference at all.

Appropriate response to take the site down? No!
Should the pages containing information to the password list be removed?
Absolutely!

Should it have be done immediately - was there so much urgency behind it?
No...

"Pull a GoDaddy."
 Love it!

Having said that, I do stand by GDs decision to pull the plug on the site.
