Hello,
I wanted to know if anyone has ever had any issues buying domain names from Sedo, that really aren't for sale?

I recently bought a domain name on Sedo. After doing research on the name I have discovered that a fully functioning "well-known" website is currently running on the URL. Needless to say I know the name must have been listed incorrectly on Sedo for the price I agreed to pay.

Payment is currently in Sedo's Escrow account, and I haven't heard anything back from them. It has been under 24 hours since I agreed to purchase the domain for the listed price.

I was just wondering in anyone here has had any similar issues like this with Sedo in the past?

I hope they do the right thing and refund me my full amount, as I know it had to be listed by accident by them.

Thanks for all your help!

I'd recommend contacting their support about it.

No worries, you will get your money back. But it might be a good idea to contact the owners through the website (preferably by phone) just to make sure the domain hasn't been stolen.

Over the last few years they had a ton of names listed on Sedo that were not really for sale, people forget to remove them when they sell or drop the domain.

I think in the last few weeks sedo have introduced an automated process that now removes them...so its getting better.

Drop them an email and they will sort it out for you.

Got a message today saying they canceled the transaction. They also recommended that I take legal action against the seller since he was not the rightful owner of the domain.

They also mentioned that they are processing my refund. Thanks for all the advice, and I'll keep you posted about the outcome. Escrow is a true friend once again!

... and nobody would argue with that. whether it is a small of big transaction always keep it it safe and secure using escrow especially as there are many dodgy practices going on these days involving domain transfer

Sedo are full of BS. The seller would have owned it at some stage - then as someone else mentioned he would have either sold it or let it expire - and the new owners would have developed it. Maybe sedo should sue themselves?

Their database of names for sale has been shot for yrs but yes it seems they have introduced checks for dns on their system that do not have nameservers.

That deletes many inaccurate listings on sedo but certainly not all.

Hope you got your cash back by now!

I love the way Sedo "recommended that i take legal action against the seller"

ROFL, Sedo are so good at wiping their hands of "issues" in regards to themselves.
