Dot tech is great for a company to use to accompany their dot com. Using it by itself is a bit wasted.
Do you really think Nissan would be happy to get a tech in their name and forget about the dot com...no they are gonna keep trying to get it.

All we see is hype about new gtlds without depth, pretty pointless. The domain name you choose is critical to how your brand is seen by the public. It is the "one" platform to showcase, engage and really stand out. Some gTLDs offer a way to market and engage in more focused ways, perhaps for internal uses and niche promotions. But for the key online presence, a dot com is what every business strives to get.
