A domain name is the name that is given to a website ( usually). A domain is the website, or collection of websites. SSL ( Secure Sockets Layer) is a protocol that encrypts the data used to access a domain ( web site), this gives the visitor more security, especially when using passwords for example.

SSL has no significance when you are considering domain names, but it is imprtant when you use the names.
