Site review please

This is the first attempt at my online portfolio, I'm still fairly new to the game and would appreciate anybody's thoughts on how it looks.

I like it, my only suggestions are...
1. 'Please Pick a File from the left' is not pleasing to the eye... i'm not to sure why, perhaps size, or lack of other colors in the shot (ack sorry, to much Film and Video class.. its getting to my brain)

2. The files on the left... how about changing these to Thumbnails? just a suggestion...

The site is pleasing to the eye, but as said above, there is something about the files on the left that I just don't care for. I'm not sure why... I think it's becuase I don't know what I'm clickin on ahead of time.

What language did you use to create the site ?

I used some elements of Cold Fusion for the server side stuff, but mainly it is programmed in HTML 4.01 Transitional and JavaScript/CSS, or more commonly known as DHTML.
