I registered this domain over 13 years ago (back in those days, it was free).

I built a business around it, but I think the domain name itself might be worth more.

I've received oddball offers over the years, but nothing serious.

I registered Server.com as a service mark with the USPTO. Our trademark registration was rejected (too generic).

Thank you for your opinion.

Hosting will become a commodity sooner or later, like what Amazon is doing with it's S3. If I were you I would sell this while people are still leasing individual servers. But not for less than 7 figures.

By the way, I've seen you on Sitepoint. Are you doing enough with your business? Maybe there's a way you can extract more from this name without selling it.

For resellers, you could get mid $xxx.xxx. But if you try to target your audience and email some companies, you could get even more.

Anyway mid $xxx.xxx is the lowest offer I would accept.

Imagine how much Sun would pay for this one...their entire business is built around Servers

Agree with Sashas.

One of the best domains i've seen here so far... In time, Dell, HP, IBM, Cisco, Sun..will show interest to this name.

I'd say $xxx, xxx to $x,xxx, xxx, I will not accept lower than mid $xxx, xxx - hold if you can...

I'm a hoster, so truly love your domain. Congrats. :)

I would recommend tampering your expectations from what some of the appraisals are suggesting. I think this name is definetly quality and should fetch in the upper eschilon, somewhere perhaps in the high xxx,xxx figures.

I simply recommend reviewing what domain names have sold over 1 million, and the list is short and sweet. Does yours have a chance of breaking the million dollar mark? Yah... but its gonna be close I think. Here is the list of all reported domain sales over 1 million dollars.

The market for server hardware last year was over $50 billion. That's comparable to the diamond market.

I agree, but the markets are entirely different.

Comparing Diamonds to Servers is not reasonable. The market for Diamonds in total spent may very well be comparable to that of servers (and that class of technology) but Diamonds have a much broader public appeal. Servers to the regular "Average Joe" really doesnt mean much.

Consider that the general public shops online for diamonds. The general public does not shop online for servers. Your almost in a B2B enviornment, where as Diamonds are direct to the consumers.

Im simply saying SHOULD Cisco buy your domain name? What advantage will it give them in the market place? Especially considering theyve already branded their name exceptionally well?

Now consider does Diamond.com bennefit a Jeweler? I think much more than Server.com would bennefit a tech company. Dont forget, the type of people who buy or rent servers, are not typically the people who are going to just type "Server.com" into the address bar... there saavy. They know where to get servers, and they hunt. I believe there will be a stronger direct navigation via Diamond.com than Server.com

So, if your day dreaming about a 7 million dollar sale, I would recommend just to tamper your expectations.

Could I be wrong? Sure.... What do I know. Im just some guy, somewhere.

Business.com is definitely B2B. According to the WSJ, they're entertaining offers in the $300-400 million range.

And if you read the article, you'll understand its not just the domain name they are selling, its the business, which is generating substancial revenue.

Your simply offering your domain name - correct? You didnt ask anyone to appraise the associated business.

I hate to nitpick, but considering the business we're in... I think you mean to say "temper."

Business.com is a company with very solid ebitda and an international customer base - this suggests potential, but doesn't really translate as a comparison for valuation.

Realistically you are looking at a mid 6 figure domain (Say $400,000 to $600,000) if sold at one of the TRAFFIC conferences.

Better yet, get in touch with the "Big-Boys" directly if you don't like the uncertainty of auctions; many folks here would love a broker's commission on 6 figures ;)

I can suggest that you must save your money and have somebody pay you to let them try to sell it for you, and whatever the current market will bare is the current value.

500,000$, but if that's my domain i wouldn't sell it with that amount. I will be looking for millions.

โ‚ฌ700,000 +/-

Honestly, it's a nice market and it's sure to increase as time goes by.

Funny how a domain that means almost nothing to you can buy you a state of the art house.

No doubt the name itself is worth $XXX,XXX. You could probably make even more if you developed.
