I have received my first offer via sedo to purchase a domain name I own. I paid $7.50 for the domain so will be looking at all profit either way.

Now the offer is for $200. The domain gets less than 10 visits/day.

Now is the question.

To the correct purchaser, this domain, in my opinion, is worth high xxxx to low xxxxx. But that purchaser may never come about.

Would you take the money and run? How high would you counter on a $200 dollar offer?

Thanks for any advice or tips.

Heck, counter at... $1600?
Just my gut reaction at this exact moment.
The danger: buyer scared away by high price, but chances are that if they're pro's they'll counter back.

never accept the first offer, as far as how high to quote kinda hard without knowing the name,traffic,etc... Basically it is your call, can you sit on it until the right offer comes around or do you need the dough? Just picture a price that would make you happy and have no regrets on getting rid of it and see how it goes.

I agree,Never except the first offer for sure,If the person really wants the DN they will pay a premium for it,But at the same time you don't wanna loose a sell with an outragious counter offer,If your content with the counter offer then i would consider taking the cash.Just MOP

Rule of thumb for this kind of thing, figure out the extreme in each case that would make you sick/sorry and then figure out what will make you happy either way.

For example, if your site is jerrystunes.com and you counter at $300 and never hear from them again will you be sorry you didn't just sell for $200? On the other hand, suppose that you counter at $1600 and they snap it up no questions asked. Two weeks later you see it sold for $2,000,000 because itunes was bought by a guy named Jerry. Now would you be sick that you hadn't asked $1,000,000? After looking at the extremes, find a price that makes you happy either way. Then counter back with 150% of that price.

I would do my homework and learn how much the buyer was willing to pay before responding. Then I'd know if it was some kid who was saving money from his paper route or some company trying to pick it up cheap.

If you can name five companies that would pay 10k for the name then simply offer it to one of them. If not, re-evaluate your valuation of the name.

I agree that you should never accept the first offer, but that being said, 99.999% of the $200 offers I get are from some kid who has a budget of $200. If you can establish this, and are willing to sell for $200, then it's often worth doing. You can't get blood from a stone, nor $50k from a paper route.

I would run! That's because I don't know much and $200 for a $8 registration is pretty good. Follow the others advice though, you never know you might get that $xxxx that you think it is worth.

Depends on if you really need cash right now or not
or if you are willing to take the risk to wait for a better buyer who is willing to pay more

$200 is a pretty good profit already :imho:
